High Speed Internet/Dsl please?

I'd highly suggest Verizon.

Comcast is absolutely horrible. Their networks are shit, and they're known for packet sniffing.

Verizon may have some screwy billing, and crappy Tier 1 support, but once you tell them to get a supervisor, or get you a Tier 2/3 agent, all is good.

Never had an issue with Verizon, and they have no 'caps' on internet. (They own one of the major backbones)

IMO: Call up Verizon, tell them you want to see what services are available where you are (they won't come out and run landlines and install new fiber 'just because'). Their DSL is top-notch, and their fiber options are just plain awesome.

You'll have issues with Comcast (intermittent connections, network clogs, etc.)

makes me happy i got a 10/2M in my nerd den and hopefoly soonish a 30/30 or a 60/60

Called Verizon. They said for them to be able to even look at running a line down to me I would have to have the address of someone within a mile with Verizon phone/dsl service.

Also... I'm not that great with computers however, we only have Fios in town. Would it even be possible to get it ran down here?

I called Quantum Internet Services which is a local isp. They tell me that even though my area is populated enough for verizon to make a profit my lines are not equip with the copper needed for dsl. I was told my only hope was comcast. I do most of my botting at the office so bad internet connection every once and a while isn't that big of a deal.

I've been with Comcast for years.. fairly disappointed with their downtime. Wish I had Verizon in my area.

Never been charged for overages, though - and god knows I download way too much stuff.

Comcast is shit.

If you want to be happy (by happy I mean perfectly satisfied) with your ISP... go for top notch. I've noticed that its the SMALL THINGS that really piss me off.

Internet lag
Internet downtime
someone fucking up my order at a restaurant (if the food is crap, im not extremely disappointed - i'd rather have shitty food of what i ordered than wait for a new order)
incompetence (/ignore works great)
other random small things.

The big things really don't piss me off as I can usually get those fixed by a few phone calls / emails. The small things are stressful

Damnit.. now you've all got me wanting Verizon FiOS.

What's the best way to pester them into wiring my area?

Call them. If they say no, ask to speak to a supervisor to see why... usually tier 1 will just say "we can't go there" and don't know anything else. The managers will know why, and sometimes will re-consider. The way I got them to run verizon 5 miles out of "town" to the next mini town was that I got 50+ ppl to sign a charter stating that they would sign up for it... and boom a couple of weeks later they installed "The Internets" (lol Bush)

I can make that happen.. can probably get more signatures than that. Being in management at Best Buy has advantages.

Yes however, going from not being able to play for half a month because of going over 5gig with the ps3 to going with comcast and having a few problems here and there is a big jump.

consider a non-contract trial amount of time with them (30 days or whatever). I'm sure a manager could work that out. Tell them that you would like to see how the service performs

Comcast never makes you sign a contract. Neither does AT+T.

They may mislead you into thinking you've got some kind of commitment, but you definitely don't.

Source: Ex-Comcast sales rep. Don't bash me, it was just a job.

I have to see how the service report that they did goes first. If they say that they won't bring it out here I may try to get a contract full of people to sign it.

If what QIS said was true. DSL from verizon/att is unavailable here until they put a different type of copper in the phone lines. For some reason comcast could possibly be available.

Simple solution:

Run new phone lines ;)

I kid, I kid.

Good luck
