Dear god... i was hoping someone would understand and see the logic and use in thiz... i guess i have to spell it out..
First off, Gotomypc is expensive and much too slow because it operates through a remote relay. Same with RDM+ Splashtop is a much better piece of software, and actually has features that allow you to play wow through the ipad. It's specifically designed to work with the ipad. In fact, in the app store it advertises itself as a great app to play wow with through the ipad. That's why I got it.
The issue is that managing files and software through remote desktop software isn't fast, and with a touchscreen it can be difficult. It is especially slow across the internet.
This is why I also run Readdle on my ipad, and have Webdav directories setup on my computers, so that I can remotely manage and edit files in the HB and WoW addon directory through my ipad, through an interface designed for the ipad. In addition, since I am not streaming my desktop video and audio, this allows for very quick file management and transfer. For example, when a new HB release comes, I can download it and extract it on my ipad and then upload it directly to my HB directory on my home computer while on holiday in a different country.
So you see, there is a reason why remote desktop apps are not optimal for controlling your bot. Good for just checking up and seeing what it's doing in game briefely, but not for actual management and control of the system.
However, having a standalone app that allows you to control the functions of HB has many advantages. For instance, let's say I want to upload a new profile to HB through my ipad. Through Readdle i can download the latest kicks svn, copy a profile from there and upload into my computer.
However, then I would have to go my splashtop remote viewer and manage HB like that. When really, it would be faster to access the software without a streamed video/audio desktop session and just tell it what file to use and then press start.
That and you can actually tell what the bot is doing by simply looking the log. 9/10 Times you don't actually need to look at the toon to see that it's stuck or that it's encountered a quest error, etc.
More over, it would be cool if this app had basic commands to give to the bot like "use hearth on cooldown" or "go to org" or even "go to xyz."
The app should also have a /w log.
As far as profile development/code development for HB on the iPad (i edit profiles through the ipad through textastic) it might actually expediate development with quick easy access to the debug log instead of having to try and view the log through a remote desktop client.
.
Finally, and here's a big one: An app like this would allow for very unobtrusive way to control HB if it's running in the background and someone is using the computer other than you . For example, my girlfriend might be using the comp while the comp is botting. Wow is hidden, and HB is minimized so it's all in the background. She doesn't see the bot nor does she know that it's botting.
Having to log into the computer with a remote viewer forces me to take control of the computer away from the user. I don't care what shes looking at and I want her to feel like she has her privacy, but at the same time I would like to be able to remotely manage HB in the background.
So in motherfucking god damn conclusion, gotomypc sucks dick for remotely controlling HB through an ipad and an app designed to control HB would have serious advantages over this.
