To Mods: Don't move this thread to guide section, as the point of this thread is that people contribute and I can put it all on the first page so it builds up over a period of time, this is a work in progress type thread.

Explanation of thread: In this thread you can post your own setup and what you do too optimize your botting, this can include software to hide your windows or to reduce your screen size... this can include changes to your windows operating system such as lowering the screen resolution or anything that covers optimization. (in future I'll properly optimize thread ^^ like context with links, headers etc (maybe, since they block some code...)... maybe a pdf)

Goal: To be able to reduce the resources required on your CPU, Memory, Disk when botting.

What this thread covers: Windows Operating System(s), Honorbuddy, World of Warcraft, VMWare.

-------------------------

Optimization:

World of Warcraft:

Settings:

System -> Graphics - Choose lowest settings. (Last Edit - 06/04/2013)
System -> Display. - (Last Edit - 06/04/2013)

Display Mode - "Windowed"
Resolution - Lowest Resolution
Refresh Rate - Lowest Refresh Rate

Macros

Windows Operating System(s)

Settings:

1. Color Quality (Last Edit - 06/04/2013)

Right-Click on Desktop -> Properties -> Settings - "Color quality".
Select 16-Bit and click "Apply".

2. Screen Resolution (Last Edit - 06/04/2013)

Right-Click on Desktop -> Properties -> Settings - "Screen resolution".
Select the Lowest Possible.

3. Hardware Acceleration (Last Edit - 07/04/2013)

Right-Click on Desktop -> Properties -> Settings - "Advanced" - "Hardware Acceleration"
Slide the bar to when it says "Disable on Cursor", if you get an error when starting wow you've gone too far :p

Honorbuddy:

Settings and Tools:
1. General - Log Level. (Last Edit - 06/04/2013)

Select "None" and click "Save & Close".

2.Plugins (Last Edit - 07/04/2013)

Disable all if possible

VMWare:

1. Turn off Audio
2. Reduce window size to very small bar and then minimize that
3. Turn off "Share bluetooth devices" in USB Settings
4. Check your Nodes per Hour, if it's a lot lower than normal this means you need to increase CPU/RAM amount (do in increments) as sometimes the bot can lag from not having enough resources and won't be able to pick up ore.

Why do people use VMWare to bot? To change their HWID/MAC?

Because it keeps it separate from the same machine, and doesn't force itself to the front when you minimize it... the taskbar icon is still there but it's basically like being able to minimize honorbuddy and wow.

vmware noob, is this using VMware player?

So instead of using 2 clients and 2 HBs on my normal machine, I could instead run two vmware sessions when macroing and have all minimal type settings as above, and when actually playing just use normal client with decent settings from desktop, instead of changing things around? Could also run one macro in a vmware session and have it impact my main session less?

imagine vmware session as a new computer, you can put all your wows in that new computer and let it run without impacting on the pc that your using now (so just 1 taskbar icon).

Some VM tips that I ran into recently:

Set preallocated size (fixed hd size not on the fly growable)

Disable / exclude the scanning of any VM file in your anti virus (on the HOST system)

Frequently defrag on the vm (vmware-settings-hard disk)

If you are not using fixed size vm reclaim space every so often

k...so i made a fresh install of VM ... installed windows xp sp 3 + wow + HB ...
I give to VM:
1 core procesor
1 GB ram
40 GB HDD

i only run 1 copy of wow on VM but when the bot is going to a mine or herb is freezing and wasting a lot of time. Now i press Ctrl+Alt+Del to check the VM resource usage and the VM proc is at 50% and 500 MB Ram so is not at 100% why the game is freezing and lagging every time he is going to a mine herb?

2 core or set high prio on wow process.

because i believe that blizzard pins your computer every time you get a 72 H suspension so is more likely you get faster the second ban. And that why i use VM

also with VMWARE linked clones you can share HDD space for all VMs so it uses just enough HDD space for 1 windows and 1 WOW copy and not for 10 copies (there are also other ways to accomplish that)

This still a decent Config.wtf setup? Although I'd rather change to DX11..

I just made a really simple app for hiding my WoW window while botting, since I only have one WoW account and just bot it on my regular PC
