well actually, NZ is the only country in the world which has an emergency earthquake fund, which all taxpayers pay around 50-60$ a year into.

I think it spent around $2B From the last quake (September 4th 2010).

But yes this one is estimated at $15B. Which is mostly covered by the government.

Dude, nm the rest good to know your alive and well after being in the quake

Hope the insurance takes good care of sorting your house

Good to know you're safe and well, and at the end of the day it's all that matters really :)

Most of my wifes family lives in Christchurch, so we were on tenderhooks as we waited for everyone to check in to confirm their safety. We had one that was slow to let everyone know, and of all places he lives in Lyttleton. Everyone made it safely though, so we can count our blessings. Just a shame the same couldn't be said for their houses.

Hey man, I too am located in Christchurch, although where i am living we have suffered minimum to no damage.
Power took 3 days to come back on, water around a week, but it is still not safe to drink.
Best of luck to you out in the Eastern suburbs and hope everyone you know is ok (:.

You are welcome to come over and stay in my house if you have nowhere to live.

Cheers

I live in Burwood / Marshlands. The last quake, in September we had almost no damage, though, I got a couple of new top-of-the-line computer systems out of it and some wine glasses. But this time around, we got bitch slapped!

This power has been on and off all day here. It went off about 7pm and just came on (8:15pm).

The house, no. Me, yes. I'm rugged up in a blanket :)

Half the windows and doors don't open/close and there are enough gaps between broken walls to let all that nice cold air in. Fortunately my computer room pumps out quite a bit of heat :)

FPS you should post some pics of your home if you can or just of the local general destruction so we can see how bad your area was hit = P, glad to hear your alright along with all the HB users in the area!

The Devistation NZ and Australia has had in the last couple of month's is severe, I wish you all the best mate.

@Fps.....
this is really terrible to hear. I hope you and your family are ok.

With the house, and everything all damaged, can you financially handle it?, because material damage is probably huge.

take care mate

Good Luck to you and the whole people in your area, after being thru 2 hurricanes myself, I know how devastating it is to see your whole town screwed up. Hang in there man, we are pulling for you

Financially everything is covered by EQC (Earthquake Commision) and my insurrance company - when they pay out. Our personal estimated loss (house and contents) is $380k - $450k.

I'm not sure what you have seen on the news but Christchurch, New Zealand - where I live - had a massive earthquake 2 weeks ago and devastated the city.
Dont know what to say really..
I have many friends in Christchurch which I gave many thoughts. It turns out that you're one of them.
Too bad to hear about all the problems with your house and everything around.
Sincerely hope that everything goes well for you, and lovely to hear you're alive bro.
