Yes you can but its a little trick around the problem. I assume you want a bot to follow you around when you play manually? The way to do it is using simple follow (find here:https://www.thebuddyforum.com/demonbuddy-forum/plugins/223936-party-plugin-simplefollow-3-0-a.html)
In the character you play manually you need to also run the bot but use a blank profile so that the bot wont interfere with your input.

im assuming they are not using a bot so as far as I know this is not possible

Don't follow, instead lead! I have my BoT running with clan mates and my Monk goes Ham. They will follow ;-)
