Just did a clean install of DB to a new folder for the 298 version. I am not able to get anywhere. Couple of debugging things I did:
  1. Start D3 and login getting to character screen
  2. Start DB and login
Results:
DB closes, d3 window is flashing. Attached is the log for this attempt file name = 6096 2013-01-23 21.38.txt).

Second thing I did:
  1. Start D3 and login getting to character screen
  2. Start second D3 process and login getting to character screen
  3. Start DB and login
Results:
DB closes, d3 window is flashing. Attached is the log for this attempt (file name = 5344 2013-01-23 21.37.txt).

I have no plugins, no profiles, no nothing. Just the latest version of DB (298).

I have clicked on the help folder to ensure that I have the latest .NET framework and C++ package installed.
I have made sure that I am running DB as administrator.
My path to DB is as short as possible (H:\_DemonBuddy). I know you wouldn't know this in the logs because it doesn't get that far to output that information but thought it would help knowing. Any help with getting me up and running again would be appreciated.

Thanks in advanced.

Are you by chance running on a virtual machine?

Mate are you possibly on VMware? I used to get this while running DB on VMware. I've to let you know that we don't support VMware

No virtual machines involved at all. I am running on windows 8 x64 if that matters / helps

I was able to go back and find the last log when I had this working, and the subsequent log file after that.
7308 2013-01-21 20.39.txt.zip (last log file that worked / let me into DBand D3), this file was to large and had to zip it up.
10136 2013-01-21 22.39.txt (very next log file after that).

At this point I was using YAR as my relogger and i believe my plugins are listed in the log that worked last.

Hope this helps.

first things first, if you havent yet, make sure you completely restart your machine.
if your running DB though the relogger make sure your running the latest version of the relogger.
after you come back, if your running any anti-virus or anti-spyware apps disable them and try running DB again.

are you getting any kind of errors? or is the whole thing just quietly closing out?

remove:
- microsoft .net framework 4 client profile
- microsoft .net framework 4 extended
- microsoft visual c++ 2010 x86 redistributable

restart your pc,
download the DB installationwizard from here
run it as administrator.
after the wizard is done, run windows update. And install all updates for .net & c++
restart

download a clean install of DB
run diablo3 and demonbuddy as administrator.

Just ran through all of this again, and restarted each time (after uninstalling .NET framework 4, and the C++ redist, and then again after installing).

Just downloaded DB once more and ran DB and D3 as admin (previously I was not running D3 as admin because I had to re-download it) I have corrected that and am now running both as Admin.

One thing to note is that I am running the launcher as admin. If I try to run just the exe as admin (meaning going to the compatibility tab for the d3.exe (and not the launcher) I get an error from d3 saying that it failed to load a critical file.

Do I need to have both the launcher.exe and d3.exe running as admin?

Just as a follow up, my understanding is that I cannot uninstall .NET 4 since I am on windows 8. It is built in and you simply cannot remove it.

yes if you are on Win8 skip .net part

so are you ok now?

So to report back, i found a place where i can remove all previous versions of .NET (not sure why that worked, or if in the process clearing out a registry key fixed it) but after running that, and restarting, then uninstalling the C++distro, restarting, isntalling the C++ distro, restarting (and running windows update), then a fresh install of DB with nothing (plugins, profiles, routines, anything) seems to have fixed it. Had to jet off, but it looks like it logged in and was just sitting there after flashing the window. Will check back later to make sure i am completely in.

Thanks again for the insight.
