I can confirm for 100% that GM's does test by porting players to certain locations where they are stuck to see how the player is behaving. Also I can share another trick GM's do; They lift a character up into the air and drops it down (So they get fall damage) Usually a bot instantly sit down and eat, while a normal player would be all confused and hesitate for a moment.

I got this info at first hand from a GM self.

I was doing some pet battle farming a week or so back and my bot had gotten stuck overnight, when I woke up some random player named Blizzgm or some such had whispered me and said I was in violation of ToS for botting and should open a website and give them my account info or some such. Which I of course did not. I just ignored it and continued botting. This, however, means that scammers/goldfarmers/hackers have bots that check who's been where, when and for how long et.c. and try to scam them with scaretactics pretending to be blizzard

Or they just blanket send that message to everyone, and you're part of the statistic that would be shaken by it.
