DB and Trinity freeze

I havn't been able to get DB working yet. When I try to config Trinity it takes 4-5 mins before the config window pops up and 5min more when choosing settings. I have tried as some people have told others in here to pause DB first, but my question is does DB tell you when it's paused bc nothing tells me it is.
