D3 window freezing troubleshooting

Whether I run 4 D3 bots at once, or just 1, eventually a window will freeze. The bot will still be playing the game, but you will just see a frozen D3 window. This isn't too bad - you can hit ctrl+alt+del then ESC and it will magically come back to life. In my case, I run the bot while I'm at work, and after a while the D3 instance will completely crash - that's bad.

I am running the following:
Windoze 8.1
NVidia 770 344.11 drivers released on the 18th
i7 3.4ghz
16gb ram
Every D3 instance runs from a separate physical HD


I have tried:
exiting FRAPS
exiting Steam/Origin
Disconnecting my secondary monitor
Enabling/disabling vsync
Running all GFX as low as possible
Disabling sound
Verbally abusing my computer
Various adjustments to DB cache refresh
Crying

Nothing so far has worked. I just started running the Three Musketeers profile that runs Zolten Kulle - this has dramatically increased the frequency of freezes.

I am now paving one of my spare laptops to Windoze 7. I will enable classic UI mode and see if that machine freezes. I have a slight hunch the win8.1 UI could be causing it, why else would ctrlaltdel fix it?

Anyone else have stuff to try? I do not want to run the render disabler.
