Computer CPU overheating.

OK my CPU is overheating when I have Arelog,5 instances of WOW and HB running. I have run this team before with no problems so why is it happening now. I upgraded my memory to 10GB from 6GB. My system
X58A-UD3R
Intel I7 950
10GB Ram
ATI Radeon HD 5770
Corsair Hydro 100 cooler
Win 7 Pro

I am getting frustrated with it all. I took the thing apart and cleaned all the dust bunnies out. Used my air wand with 120 PSI behind it to tun dust out. Living in Vegas its a once every couple a month thing. Running 4 toons on HB the temps are getting 85/90 but add that 5th one and it reaches 98/100 and I shut it down.

Any REASONABLE suggestions?

Lower down your graphics. 5 sessions shouldn't run that high!

Try those macros on 1 client and close it. Then reopen all wow.exe clients and try again.
 
Sounds more like a hardware failure, are you 100% certain your cooler is correctly attached to the cpu??? And if said cooler is working fine.

Yo i just had an h80i fail on me less than a year old whats your computer idling at? I didn't even realize mine was a problem until my motherboard was underclocking to lower temps.
 
Yes the closed loop water cooling solutions anywhere from H50-H110 have failures sometimes on the pumps. Best to keep it registered if it does. If you overclock at all... That can cause it to heat up beyond "spec" of how it was tested. In essence they are really just "crap" systems. They work, but they eventually fail at some point within a few years. You're best to spend the money on a custom water loop. They work better and generally have less failures if you set them up right. And the pumps and components are so much better over all.

I am skipping that bullshit though, I'm going for a phase change unit. They are hella expensive, but really I could manufacture the parts I need if the mounting doesn't get updated/work. And really... -12c on load??? I think that's plenty cool, not to mention being able to overclock another 500-1000mhz easily and never have to worry about voltage. :) I'm hearing its easy to attain 5.3-5.7ghz on them. :)

It is but its not a 24/7 pc if you go phase change. You cannot simply run it all the time since lowering below ambient temperature will require some kind of insulation for all your parts as you will create condensation which will mean you have to monitor it to make sure you don't short anything out.

A custom loop is far more realistic and even then it cost 400$+ depending on how pretty you want it.
 
I recently had similar issues on my i5, was running up to 98 degrees. Fairly cheap but super well recommended Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO for a few bucks fixed it down to 45 degrees.
 
Check if the heatsink paste between your CPU and Cooler is still moist and if there is enough of it on the CPU. (It should just be a thin layer with the CPU being barely visible...too much is bad as well) It tends to dry out under heavy use, especially if you live in hot areas.
 
OK update, checked the heat sink connections and disassembled it. Took most of the gunk off with alcohol and then used 0000 steel wool to get the rest off. Inspected the surfaces of both cooler and chip and they looked acceptable, not perfect but acceptable. The board had one loose post, the one holding the heat sink to the chip, so I tightened it. Put it together again and have the case open running 5X5 WOW and HB. It is running 65 or so on all 4 cores and using 7.5GB RAM. I am about to test Arelog opening and running the toons. I hope I fixed whatever the problem was. Probably a combination of old grease and loose post on the chip/heatsink connection. Idle is running 40 or so. Hope I gain a couple degrees when I close the case.

I always leave a case open when I am working on the computer. Murphy is not kind to me.
 
For my next system upgrade I was thinking about a custom made case, by me, and using a custom cooling system. Either immersing the radiator in an ice bath or perhaps an A/C refrigeration unit setup. Cool the case down while I am at it. I live in the Desert so humidity and condensation is usually not a factor. We will see.
