actually Honorbuddy IS difficult to setup/start using, not for me personally, but you have to measure difficulty for AVERAGE person not techies like us.
I spent a lot of time (several years) working in fortune 500 as developer and technical support, and this is several parts of honorbuddy that average office worker in said fortune 500 company would find problematic to understand/do/use:
- You need to download program from "some" forum instead on last page as soon as you entered/committed your credit card details
- Program you download is called honorbuddy_xx_xx.zip instead setup.exe most people expect
- You need to manually find and unzip program instead just doing next->next->next in setup.exe that your browser automatically started after download
- You need to manually setup honorbuddy and WOW to run as admin instead setup.exe doing it automatically
- You need to manually change WOW to use windowed mode and 32bit version, and DX9 instead setup.exe doing changes for you
- You need to update WOW link on desktop/start menu to start wow directly instead of launcher manually instead of HB setup making change for you
- when selecting bot from list there is no description like "dungeon buddy lets you run 5 man dungeons using bot" or "bgbuddy lets you do PVP battlegrounds using bot"
- there is too many bots/options (currently 12) it would be easier if they are somehow combined grupped, average office worker cant always make so complicated decisions
- I agree builtin profiles are risky but there should atleast be link to page with list of (ranked) profiles near load button
- when something goes wrong, or needs to be updated (if for some reason bot is not able to update itself) user should be able to just again download newer version of honorbuddy setup.exe from same place and setup should detect previous version, and offer to either keep settings, or "clean" install
Off course honorbuddy team does not have as much resources as Microsoft/Apple/unnamed company with over 10k employees i work for as my day job, and it is ok that honorbuddy requires some technical expertise, but it is not ok to insult people just because they are average unlike you or me and need whole day to install something as complicated as honorbuddy. it would be better to try to help them if possible instead, or even better making simple step by step picture, or video manual to do it so that you can link it next time someone has problems/put it in manuals section (this might even exist-video tutorial for install/setup i would not know since i did not need it)
Programs of this sort are rapidly changing and adapting to the rapidly changing and adapting game it's made for. I doubt making a grand installer is one of their many goals seeing as with the way the program updates you'd have to go through the installation numerous times which for most people is rather annoying. Not being able to operate an unzip program is rather unfortunate and very uncommon on the internet, this bot isn't exactly made to hold your hand. While I do agree that the advertisement and checkout process needs some work, the bot does not need to cater to the internet illiterate.
1) The forum is the best place to deliver the bot, but there is a page at the top showing you where you can get the new bot which is always updated.
2) Setup.exe is now given to you, but you're going to have to run it and install to a different folder every time because there's no way to make a complex updater for this program. Most people find it easier to right click and unzip it.
3) Finding something on your computer and unzipping it is a miniscule process that needs to be learned to operate a bot of this technicality. Most kids in highschool know how to do this nowadays, no offense.
4) The installer has no way of altering your shortcuts to run the programs as administrator. You'd have to supply it with the locations of the shortcuts, wasting more peoples time.
5) The installer has no way of changing your WoW launcher settings to 32 bit without having it ask you where it is, wasting yet again more technically inclined peoples time. Dx9 is not required, it works with Dx11 now.
6) You can run WoW from the launcher, because no matter what you open the client or launcher will force you to update regardless.
7) There are plenty of documentation areas that explain these things that you need to find. Bloating the software with a help guide would not be ideal.
8) Dropdowns are not difficult, and combining bots is more complicated than you think.
9) A link to a page with profiles is more bloated buttons in the program, people should notice by glancing on the forum homepage where to find profiles.
10) Complicated installer is not possible nor wanted as it would have to delete the entire installation and reinstall to prevent conflicts and crud buildup.
Nobody is insulting you, but they can't cater to everyones misfortunes and peeves with the program. They spend most of their time fixing the bot after blizzard wrecks it with updates and hotfixes. They will answer any support question as will other people on the forums to help you get started and get familiar with the bot.
