GBIDs are longer like -1958384165 for the ashera's shoulders

Put the item in your backpack and go to the Trinity tab in the main DB window, click the 'Check Itemlist' button. It will post info about all your backpack items, including the GbId, e.g.

Thanks for the response, what about obtaining gbids for items that we dont currently own or game balance ids for affixes? Is there a database table of gbids including dev rings that can not be dropped in the game? It would be most helpful!

You can get it from the game data (CASC) files. The string-list have the GameBalanceName which when run through the hash algo's can give you a GBID. However, you still need a way to identify the record, game balance name is not the same as the internal name shown in game DB on item objects.

If you google an item and view source on the wow page for it you'll notice that part of the icon tends to be the game balance name for the item, this may not always be the case.
