Why would people even salvage items?

It all depends on the price of Essences vs Rares. Most rares sell for 1k-3k, while Essences hover anywhere from 800-3000g. If Essences are high, salvage. If Essences are low, sell. Playing manually you can look at the price and decide for yourself whether or not to sell a specific rare, but unfortunately with DB+Giles you can only pick one or the other, and Sell is better in the long term.

when i wes playing manually i did this its really good for extra gold its add's-up all this 100 gold here and 500 here and 50 here it add's-up into nice amounts

to bad giles cant specific what to salvage what to sell and what to stash in a good system
