Best way to sell gold?

Now this post isn't about where to sell gold or anything, but safest way to drop some extra gold for IRL needs (like college classes). I'm sitting on 30k gold right now and most likely wont need anymore than 8k when cata hits. So I was wondering what is the safest way to sell gold, it is the guild bank way, face to face, or through the mail, or even selling things on the ah. And how much gold per transaction and how often is safe?

Like I wa saying I need money for my college classes next semester so I am just trying to make ends meet, this isnt me saving up for a ferrari or anything.
