If I purchase another account to bot on, will I get banned on my main account to? Or should I just set up a VMbox to run the bot inside?

Its extremely rare for blizzard to IP ban any of their games (almost unheard of). Its almost always just the offending account. So yes, its possible to get IP banned, but very very unlikely.

People these days mostly have dynamic IPs given each time they connect to the internet from their ISP. An IP ban is rarely going to be a useful way to ban someone. But it could ban an entire ISP, or university etc. So its dangerous for them to try.

Before they banned a WAN they would ban by MAC to the single client.

Blizzard would prefer you to move onto one of their other games rather than blocking you all together.

(Literally)

The only time Blizzard would block an IP would for because of attacks such a DDOS..

It will never ban an IP for botting.. ever... You could Bot-ban-buy an new account-bot-ban-buy a new account till the cows come home- Blizzard will keep taking your money.

The only time I've ever heard of a blizzard IP ban was a few years ago when an Army base in the south had an IP ban issued to them for the hundreds of botters using that IP on base.
One IP but many subnets were nailed that day.

Your home client end ISP's IP will never get an IP ban...they just ban your account...So buy a new D3 set of keys and make a new Blizzard Account. Simple.
