I just realized you're talking about the 1:00 to 3:00, not 11:00 to 1:00.

Why would RealID take so long to implement? They tried to apply it last time and it failed, and they're still having trouble with it. -_-

about 5 minutes before they will update us with somthing like "We are in the final stages of maintenance and should be bringing the realms back online soon"

Then "We are currently in the process of bringing the realms back online"

then 9 hours later "All realms are now online and available for use"

During that time the wow forums go down with thousands of people posting that they demand a refund.

So, not only are they taking it offline for another hour, but, they aren't even saying it's gonna come back on then, the'll just... "update" us by then.

I played Everquest for 4 years, this weekly patch day is something completely new to me.. Everquest only ever went down for server mergers.
