He won't go for the whelps if you have lethal, otherwise it figures a 6/2 trades favourably with a 1/1 and it'll go for the whelps.

The bot thinks that's a favorable trade, but when I have a 1/1 and the enemy has a 3/1 wolfrider he will ignore it and attack the hero instead. QQ

If you can kill the minion with a *SINGLE* minion, without killing your minion, it'll do it, else, it won't. Silly, I know, but, hey, basic logic.
