Am I doing something wrong in A3?

What's this one on about then? You wouldn't be able to get 75% from a follower, isn't it like 8% of follower's GF/MF that gets applied?

You get 20% of followers mf/gf/+exp. Even if he did have 375% mf and got 5 legendaries every day, he could have just got lucky. It doesn't mean anything and imho that much mf is a waste.

Ah, it's 20% now, fair enough. I'll just wait til my paragon levels push me to 300 I guess.

I don't understand how someone could say 375% or more MF is a waste, when what we are doing is farming for loot. If you are botting for loot, you should max your MF. Common sense. RNG is RNG, but I have had far better results after maxing my MF. I was one of the people in threads like this saying "I don't understand how you guys are getting those drops", so you shouldn't be telling people it doesn't make much of a difference - it does.

You can get 300% Base MF, plus your follower, plus your 5 stacks of NV, for a total of over 400%. I'm running @ 396% atm.

I think one of the main advantages of having high mf is the quality of your item rolls. but regarding the amounr of legendaries etc, its really RNG. My 200 mf guy on average found more legendaries than my 350 mf guy (and he runs A3 20min quicker) but when my 350mf guy does find them, the rolls are generally better.

When trying to run A3 on a budget, MF is kind of out of the question. However if you have 200+ million gold and dont expect to be paragon 100 anytime soon, then yes MF gear is a good idea.

It isn't really optional if you are serious about botting with a champ farm profile... If you are going to risk the account why wouldn't you make sure the crap you are gearing up with from the AH has some MF%? Sure if you have 10 mil to gear with, you're not going to have 300% MF, but it isn't that expensive to get a decent amount. I was surprised how easy it was.

Edit - this just dropped

MF affects quantity of drops not their quality. You just get more shots at a good item. MF gear that also has str/vit/all res on it is way too expensive, unless you have 200mil+ you're just not gonna get it. You can get some cheap gear for your follower since you can sacrifice stats on them I suppose.

In addition to affecting the roll that determines if you get a legendary, rare, etc, MF affects the odds that an item will roll 6 props. Assuming that roll still fails, it increases the chance it will have 5 props, and so on. It is extremely non-linear and hard to measure. But considering this, it could be said that MF does in fact affect the "quality" of your drops.

So most people still don't understand random, or how MF works.

The higher your MF the better quality of loot you get, MF affects the rolls that determine the quality of items. You'll get more legendaries and more rares, and those items will have generally higher stats on them because they will have more chances to roll stats.

1st the game rolls an ilvl(MF has no effect on this roll) - then it rolls for type of item (MF enhances this roll) legendary, rare, magic etc - then it rolls for number of affix/suffixes (MF enhances this roll) then it rolls a value for each of the properties it's determined(MF does not affect this roll)

All of the above chances are actually quite small though in the general scheme of things and because of statistical variance and clumping (google it) you can go for days farming act3 with no good drops to speak of and then find 4 Godly items inside of an hour, it's just the way things work out sometimes.

Thanks for laying it out like that, I probably should have taken the extra 2 minutes and done it

Thats basically what i said a few posts up. Overall, i wouldnt pickup mf unless it was considered a bonus on a particular item slot your looking for, or you happen to see it at an incredible bargain. Searching for an item with your primary stats to increase your DPS and survivability should be your priority, which will in tern speed up your paragon attainment.
