Hi,

I'm wondering, how do you deal with people who devalue your market?

  1. Respond, in turn, and drive the market price down further?
  2. Buy them out, but risk creating them demand?
  3. 'Prop' up the highest value stacks, hoping others will follow?
  4. 'Sink' the market, buy others out?
  5. Move on to a different market?
  6. Contact the competition, create some kind of collusion/cartel?
  7. Succumb, accept the new market value?

Specifically I'm not talking about 'that guy' that undercuts your Hypnotic Dust or your Trillium Bars by a few copper, but to an extent 'the masses' halving your sell value by 50% collectively -5% here, 5% there, etc. The problem as I see is it is caused by addons like Auctionator -which are set (by default) to undercut by 5%. If ten people do this that's quite a chunk knocked off the market value.

Some people won't care of course, but I'm wondering if any established AH players could lend specific experiences or mindsets on how they deal with similar examples. I'm not asking for ideas on what to sell or even specific Items / sell prices, but yeah, just experiences and mindsets out of curiosity.

PS, I'm sure a lot of you are familiar with this website, but I'll throw it out there:

Of course, the solution is simply all of the above -but I'm still hoping to hear back from other sellers -big or small ! :)

Thanks for reading !

Pic related: trying to prop up the market value, hoping that when 'they' relist they will relist at my 'propped' market value.

If there are many auctions below the average price, I'll just keep it in the bank. I never post for less than the item is worth.

And if people keep undercutting each other to a point where something is pretty much half price, I just buy it out and stockpile.

What you have done with in the screenshot will not get you any gold, but will keep your bags clean ;) Patience is the key. If you know how much it's worth, it will sell for the usual amount sooner or later. For example, herbs will never go below 25g because of inscription enchants. It may only go up if there is a banwave.

hello buddy,

i pretty much control the market in what i do, i just buy everything that is below a certain price and then put it back up for the price im gonna sell it at. even if i make 10g profit its still profit and it all adds up. hope this helps.

The real issue I find with wow AH is that you always get idiots crop up posting stuff cheap but ideally you can work it to your advantage if its cheap enough to relist.

Hi Guys,

Thanks for the comments, it's reassuring.

I think I'll take the advice from all of you and buy a little here and there (that is under market value) -even if I'm only making 10g here or there -and stockpile the rest.

For sure, that is the biggest problem -but not much we can do about them... hopefully as rinleezwins suggests 'their' prices will go away eventually; I mean (hopefully) these are not serious contenders and the novelty will wear off for them, and with it so will their effect on the market price.

Cheers chaps
