In hangar, select your wanted tank as "Primary" (right click on tank in the scrolling bar), and make it the one and only primary vehicle. I think this will restrict tankleader from choosing other tanks if your desired tank is in battle.

But my advice is - buy a couple of low tier tanks and let them farm exp and credits for you, while the main tank is busy.
