I was botting on my farming toon one night when I suddenly received first an email that Blizzard themselves have resetted my password and requests that I choose a new password.
The second email was something I've never seen before:
I'm curious as to the cause of this as well as if there is any loophole to get around submitting a valid ID.
Cheers!
The second email was something I've never seen before:
This is a bit of a problem when I try to recover the account. Mainly because, this account was bought from a reseller and I do not possess a copy of the ID.Greetings,
The registered E-mail address associated to the Battle.net account, (xxx), has been compromised. To protect your privacy and security, we have temporarily disabled the account, xxx. Before you attempt to recover your account, we suggest that you do the following steps to secure your E-mail address and the account and then verify your identity. You may do so by submitting a recovery form or contacting our Account and Technical Services Department by phone.
--------------------------------------------------------
1) SCAN YOUR COMPUTER FOR MALWARE/KEYLOGGERS/VIRUSES
----------------------------------------------------------
You can find a list of security software at Blizzard Support. One of the listed programs, Malware Bytes, is a free program designed to remove keyloggers and associated Malware. It can be downloaded from Malwarebytes : Free anti-malware, anti-virus and spyware removal download. In order to detect the keylogger please follow these steps. - Launch WoW to its login screen - Please type in random letters and number into the username/password fields. - Minimize the WoW program and perform a full computer scan using your preferred security software. - You should remove any malicious or suspicious files found. If you are unsure, consult instructions provided by the author of the software you are using.
--------------------------------------------------------
2) ADD AN AUTHENTICATOR
--------------------------------------------------------
Add a Battle.net authenticator to the account and receive an exclusive Core Hound pet! Information about this security device can be found here: Blizzard Support.
-------------------------------------------------------------
3) RESET YOUR E-MAIL PASSWORD – OR CREATE A NEW E-MAIL ADDRESS
-------------------------------------------------------------
Reset the password on your E-mail address. Always make sure the E-mail password is different than your Battle.net Account password.
--------------------------------------------------------
4) RECOVER YOUR ACCOUNT
----------------------------------------------------------
Due to the nature of the compromise to your email security, if you feel unsure about the current safety of your registered email address, we urge you to contact us by phone so that we may discuss the situation further and assist in securing your account and email as best as possible before emailing any sensitive information such as your ID. If you do choose to send us your Identification from your email address, make sure to delete the mail from your sent items after emailing us. There are two methods you can use to recover the battle.net account, you can call in to Account and Technical Services or you can submit recovery information. We suggest that if you intend to use the same E-mail address after you recover the battle.net account that you update your E-mail password after scanning for viruses and always make sure the password is different from your Battle.net Account password. As an alternative, you can create a new E-mail address for your Battle.net Account. To contact Account & Technical Services by phone for personal recovery assistance our contact information can be found at Blizzard Support. We will not be able to reset your password or update your E-mail from an E-mail communication, as an exploitive party may also have access to this E-mail address. To submit account recovery documentation, please print and fill out the Account Recovery Form (Blizzard Support), follow the instructions in the form, and then email, fax, or mail the form and required identification as directed. We will contact you with further instructions once we have processed your account recovery documentation. If you do not receive a reply within five business days of sending your submission via email, please resend it and notify us by using this form: http://us.blizzard.com/support/webform-us.xml. If you mailed the submission, please allow time for delivery. Please be aware of the following:
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
DO NOT TRUST ADD-ONS DOWNLOADED THROUGH A CLIENT or AUTOMATIC UPDATER
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
It is always best to go directly to the website and NOT download through any client. Clients are peer-to-peer networks that bypass the computer's security settings. Anytime you download an add-on it should be done manually and scanned with an up-to-date anti-virus/malware program.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
BE AWARE OF PHISHING EMAIL, WHISPERS and ACCOUNT THEFT
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
In-game whispers and email can be deceiving; however, Blizzard employees will never contact you in-game through whispers or in-game mail to alert you about account activities, prizes or beta access. If a Blizzard Game Master were to contact you for any reason, you would receive a special chat window and the text would be preceded by a Blue Blizzard Logo.
