I want to build a rig that will be able to support 9 bots. I want it as cheap as possible (for it to be more profitable).

So far I have settled for the following parts:

Processor:
Core i7 I7-3770K - 402 $
Is this an overkill for 9 bots?

Motherboard:
MSI Z77A-G45 - 145 $

RAM:
(32 GB) Corsair Vengeance 4 x 8 GB 1600 MHz PC3-12800 CL10 - 185 $

What I still need to figure out:

Case:
Cheap-o case with positive pressure and dustfilters.

SSD:
Definately an SSD - but what size will I need?

GPU:
No idea - Running multiple instances of D3 will require alot of Vram. Should I go for 2,3 or 4 GB? - Can anyone recommend a card that will fulfill my needs?

I'm from Europe btw... that's why the hardware is so expensive ;-).

Your efforts and help is much appreciated, thank you.

I'm using 80% of my CPU (not overclocked) with 6 bots on my 3770k. All lowest settings etc. Haven't experimented with Mipbias yet though.

@ SSD, it greatly depends on whether or not you're planning on running with isboxer or not. Personally I bought a 240gb and windows has taken about half of that. (All games etc installed on an additional HDD).

I will only be using this rig as a bot rig - it's not intended for personal use.

What GPU are you using?

Only 6 with a 3770k? It thought it could handle more

Well others say that it can... But idk. I'm not that technical at all.

It's not overclocked and settings are well.. all set to low. I have, however, not changed resolution(except from DRelog resizing) or changed Mipbias(what ever that is)

Good choice. Running 9 bots requires lots of cpu power and i7 is the way to go because of HT. So you have 4 real and 4 virtual cores. The other possibility is an Intel Xeon XY. Its an i7 without iGPU (which you dont need) and is a bit cheaper. Sorry, but I dont know the right description of the Xeon cpu.

Motherboard:
MSI Z77A-G45 - 145 $
Solid as well. Z77 chipset allows to overclock when needed. So if you have a decent cooling you could push this i7 to about 4.5 GHz.

RAM:
(32 GB) Corsair Vengeance 4 x 8 GB 1600 MHz PC3-12800 CL10 - 185 $
Plz have a look in the motherboard manual if this kind of ram is supported for usage of 32gb. Besides this, corsair ram is a good choice.

What I still need to figure out:

Search for one where you can install some fans in the front to push fresh air inside (prefer 14cm) and in the back to pull the warm air out.

9 x 15 GB = 135 GB just for d3. So I would take a Samsung 830 256 GB.

GPU:

2 GB should be enough.

Thanks alot for your input StefanKFG - very much appreciated.

Also I heard the Samsung 840's are the best atm. Any specific reason that you suggest the 830?

I saw a post regarding a VMware solution, where the D3 folder, along with Demonbuddy is shared. That way I will only need to install D3 on host machine, which saves alot of space x).

I went with the GTX 670 FTW 2 GB GPU.

3570k
24GB of RAM
2GB VRAM on modest GPU: GTX560 Ti
Low-end Mobo with OC options
500W PSU

Not to be a downer but... I just spent the money on a similar set up. If I was planning on making my money back I would be screwed. The way things are I wouldn't waste my money unless you wanted a new computer anyway

Why are you paying $402 for a 3770k? Seems overpriced, Microcenter sells em for $229.99 and Newegg has it for $319.99.

A Samsung 830 will be better than the 840, because the 830 uses MLC vs. 840 TLC (830 Will last a bit longer, and is a tiny bit faster). Unless you get the 840 Pro (overpriced), I'd stick with the 830 series. But then again the 840 is priced good and comes with free game, not huge difference in speed, unless you're a benchmark/tech junkie. Intel and Crucial M4 SSDs are solid choices too. I would get one in 240GB-256GB capacity range. I totally regret not getting a 256GB SSD.

Good choice on the GTX 670 FTW, I got one too, and only at 25-30% usage with 5 bots. There is a backplate you can add on for looks too, I like it.

Yes, with VM you only need one installation of D3. But keep in mind that every instance of VM needs some CPU and RAM so I dont think that an i7 3770K can handle 9 VM's. 32GB should be enough to handle but CPU could be the bottleneck. In addition, setting up a working 24/7 VM that dont crashes needs some knowhow.

I'm running 6 VM's on a 3770K and have plenty of CPU-power to spend as long as I dont do anything else on the computer. So for a dedicated bot machine I think 9 should be fine, 8 I can guarantee you will be fine.

_ Still run 7 + shogun 2 with i5 3570k OC, so i7 3770k can go 12+ for sure lol. If OP just need 9, i5 is ok, but 10 or more, go i7 :)

Please tell if you are running vms or just multiclient, it's a big difference. Vms with d3 and bot eat 1.5-2x more resources.

_ Hmm im running with ISboxer, no VMs. imo, vms not worth it lol

*hm* but nobody calculates a 2nd screen/mouse/keyboard? I know there's cheap stuff possible, but it's also money you have to spend :)
