I am playing on TW - Warsong. Tried to log on today at 4:00PM and my account is banned. I checked on their banned list it shows my account name and character name. It's not a 72 hour suspension. Played a troll druid, gathered 3 hour yesterday, and it ended up like this. Anyway, fix the druid herb picking please, it's seriously bottish flying back and forth.

um.. I've been botting with my druid literally for 3 months straight 24/7 never turned it off unless I had to restart my computer cuz it was going slow. nothing wrong with druid or any class

Well, if that's the case then I guess we all have different play styles in different country. In TW server most tauren druid would ignore the mob and goes straight down harvesting with their super cool fast herbing racial *you know what i am talking about*, and even as a troll druid it's either you drop down right at the mob and kill it first before you herb, instead of flying down then up then down then up then down at last once the mob touches you. I am gonna work on another pally.

I am still not getting how I got banned for herbing 4 - 5 hours in the past 3 days and the last day was a 3 hour harvest. Let's put aside the class I am using, but has anyone ever got banned with the amount of time that I use HB? Was farming whiptail in uldum, no one whispered, no GM whispered, nothing happened. The last day that I was still able to log on it disconnected after a while then i tried logging back on, that night the account's banned. So in conclusion I was banned coz I wasn't using it enough of it? I mean there are ppl doing 24/7 and not getting banned at all. Any tricks?

IMHO, there is no way Bliz would perma-ban automatically. It would require an investigation of some sort from a human.

If the premise is true, then the behavior for which you were banned did not occur in the past few days, but probably in the past six to eight weeks or more. The action was just delayed due to normal 'Bliz delaying tactics', or it took that long for their team member to reach the final conclusion.

Your "herbing 4-5 hours in the past 3 days" was certainly not the cause of the ban. Instead, it was some previous detectable unsafe botting practices. It could have been something as simple as a profile that Blizzard keeps an eye out for. For example, profiles that grind for Volatile Air in Uldum seem to be watched heavily, or reported a lot by the player base. Rainspeaker Rapids in Sholazar Basin was another such area because of its constant generation of mobs that allowed rapid leveling just by grinding. And botter popularity made certain areas of Zul'drak a 'likely to ban' area.

As another example, I ran a profile the other day that spammed the same macro 200 times over the course of 90 seconds. This type of action is a ban waiting to happen. I let the profile continue because the damage had already been done. Silly me thought that would be the only instance of it in the profile. Then, I saw it do the same thing again later on. At that point I dropped the profile and will probably never use it again. Over-use of the RunMacro behavior in a profile is a major "no no", as its how a number of other bots have been identified and ban-waved. What this profile did was outright RunMacro abuse that is even warned about in a highlighted "Things to Know" on the Wiki page. It might have well just added "/yell I'm a bot" while it ran, as the damage couldn't have been any worse.

Although I try to practice 'safe botting', I allowed a profile to conduct unsafe botting practices on my behalf. The failure was mine for failing to check the profile before running it because I blindly trusted the authors.

In short, there could be a lot of ways you got tagged--all server-side detection. Its not very likely your recent herbing practices were the cause.

cheers & sorry for the loss,

chinajade,

Really appreciate that you replied me with such detailed manner. After reading your reply I finally understand it could probably that I have been reported somehow back then while gathering which I didn't know. I use to believe that if a GM is going to check if you are a bot they'd whisper you to check if you actually reply. Anyway, I guess I'll just have to move on leveling another character and hoping to learn from trial and errors :P

Again, thanks chinajade!

Hey, if you get banned. And you start another account, won't they know it's you from your ip?

Well, I am not too sure about that either, I am playing on TW-realm so I am not too sure how it works here. If it's IP related then I guess my main would probably get into trouble as well. Can anyone answer this would they ban from the same IP even if it's a new account?

They do perma ban automatically, I don't know where you've been but it happens now if you're 85 and gathering, its past just giving suspensions they just straight up automated ban you with abuse of economy, you fight it and you either get compromised, somehow granted a 2nd chance in which you'll get banned again automaticaly if you gather anyway, or they say tough shit the findings were accurate. IT's ridiculous and I wish it were illegal to use automated banning to take away your 100 dollars you spent on a game account, I mean damn I know they have a lot of people but to use automation to take away people's accounts.. seems like bad business especially with how trigger happy it is lately on US.

They apparently have been known to link accounts but only active connections so if you got banned already and your main is fine then you should be fine, thats not to say you cant get banned a few days later for association to exploitive accounts but that probably requires you to be really associating with your bot account, like xferring money back n forth or sending mats or whatever. I would avoid having the same IP with your bot account while you have them both online though..

I say open a ticket, ask what on earth is going on, make a bit of a stink, say that you are collecting herbs/ore for your guild for the raids that you are going on etc...

Just keep hammering them, and likely you will get your account back.

It may be culture-specific. In the US, and we've many family members or roommates in the same household that share an IP address. Bilzzard couldn't identify/ban by IP and not snag innocent people.

On the other hand, their analysis may look to see if all of the bots from the same IP use the same MAC address (MACs normally don't make it past your router, but their are easy ways Blizzard can find this information since you're running their WoWclient). If they do this type of analysis, they can determine that all the accounts are being run on the same machine.

In short, its 'try it and see', as no one knows for certain. But the general consensus is that they don't ban by IP, and they only look at MACs if they profile you as a gold farmer.

This is good advice also. If you read the forums, you'll see a lot of people--even those with so-called permabans--have been able to reclaim their accounts.

This might work on US/EU realm, but it will definately not work on TW realm. As far I as know it takes about 3 hours for a GM to reply your opened ticket. Secondly, after we all get banned we are placed a ban-list that they made and post them on the forum/official site's ban-list link. Even if I spent the 3 hour waiting for a GM reply, they are cold and as a conclusion they'd ask you to call in in regard of your banned account. When you call, they sound like a buncha FBI's using such tone and voice. Lastly, if they say you're banned you're banned. I tried calling them for other issues and this is the service we have for TW realm.

Wow a ban list, how fun.

Here it is, even though it's written in Chinese, but as you can see they have date listed there. Basically showing the ppl that are banned on that day and if you click the link you'll be able to see the account name, charactern name, and of course the reason why you're banned and what type of ban is it.

As far as I know, they have and will never automatically perma ban without an investigation. Like any company, they like bringing in money each month. Plus it would just cause havoc.

As someone mentioned on the first page. You were probably reported 1-3 weeks ago and they just built of evidence or just got around to watching your guy for a good bit.

Best you can do is file a ticket and try to get it resolved.

Well the account I got banned lastnight, was listed as compromised and just needed to call in. On the same account was two other battle.nets that were compromised but needed ID recovery, but this 3rd account for some reason made that ID recovery go away and got all 3 back.. thats 2nd time I've gotten past account recovery by calling up.. I have more faith in phone service now.
