Honorbuddy/Gatherbuddy needs an open profile store.

I said it before and I'll say it again:

HB *NEEDS* a profile app store. I have a leveling profile (questing) that runs extremely well. I would charge $0.99 for each download of the profile if there was SOME form of DRM built into the profiles.

I refuse to give it out because I don't support helping others make money when I do all the work and get paid nothing.

Analogy:
I'm not going to go out to the store, buy you grocery's, and cook you a dinner which you charge friends to join you for, and not even get to eat with you.

By creating a good profile and giving it out for free, I'm theoretically helping Boss sell HB. Not happening if I don't get a cut.

I guarantee the moment (if it ever happens) any kind of profile store with secure distribution of profiles for reasonable prices springs up for HB, the profile quality in the community will skyrocket.

i dont agree with buying profiles. i personally think there should be a couple of good profiles that come with it. i paid $80 for the awesome program, then have to rely on whatever people decide to post on forums.

id actually pay a little bit for proven guaranteed questing profiles, that included class quests.

Now see, I do see your point in that it would not be difficult for Boss to get together a "default" profile for each race/faction.

Just like with CCs.

Not quite sure how I was "flexing my e-peen" by asking you what your contributions were... I thought it was an extremely valid question. And if you check my post history, or better yet, since you don't want to talk about posts (which is funny since we are on a FORUM) simply ask around, you will find that I don't flame people.

I just am not sure exactly how you can argue about this community lacking, while clearly you are pretty new here.

So come on, let's discuss this like big boys.

Anyways, I am actually a beta tester of The One CC for FPSWare (have been for the past 2-3 months), not to mention I help out in the Chat room every now and then, you can probably ask butane about that.

And I tend to voice my opinion on matters that are brought up on the forums. IE: This thread. In which case, I disagree with your idea. Does this make me manly?

Exactly. I'm certain that devs like CodenameG could "sell" his CCs for money, but instead he asks for donations. Sure, he may not get profit, or even break even with the amount of time or effort he puts into his coding, but he does it because he wants to help the community.

I also think that this is why the "paid plugins" concept never really caught on.

if there was a profile store, you would have to buy all your profiles, because the community wouldnt care and try to make money off of it. so say goodbye to future free content. its a stupid idea, and really MDurner is right, i think mattfrey needs a mute. opening up a discussion thread then bashing everyone who doesn't agree with you is childish.

well i dont ask for donation, donations are accepted, but ive never made a cent of my work. and its some dam hard work. ive thought about making paid versions of my work, but ultimately i decided aganist it, its a community, what example would i set if i released any of my CC's as paid products when Ski, fpsware and others do it for free. not only would i not make money, i would loose users. no users = no people testing or using it, so theres no point in doing it. if they did sell profiles or plugins, it wouldnt matter, because anyone could make one. for example, if AutoAngler was a paid plugin, someone who didnt want to pay could make a plugin that duplicates its functionality, then theres no reason to buy it. same with profiles, they wouldnt sell because people would and can make their own. but like most things people most people are too lazy to do so. its a dam shame.
