I just found this screenshot hilarious, and pretty much sums up what is going on atm:

goldsell.webp

Too much gold and not enough players :-)

slowly dying is a understatement I wish it was "slow", the game died a few weeks to a month after release, It wont be till some major patches or even a xpac hits that will breathe life into it. It is just not the same game frame as D2 and the economy is so dependent on such a broad category of factors. IMO blizz did their jobs right... they wanted to destroy what made d2 awesome in hopes that it kept a game not so much worth botting for profits. NOT that it isnt profitable, but compared to D2 far from. I myself look forward to the sale of the company and Activison getting the fuck out of it, I miss blizz of the North and hope it will get its name back they ruined it making everything so main stream trying to milk the tit.

Remember, this isn't a "pay to play" type game. You pay up front, and don't have to pay again afterwards. Games like these are successful if they keep more than 20% of the same users that bought it on day 1. The fact that 70%+ already quit, really doesn't mean a whole lot.

This isn't an MMO. The game is very different from WoW. (It's more similar to CoD or BF3 than it is to WoW. Those games lost millions of "players" within the first months, it's the ones that stick around that "count")

Apoc, thats true and not true at the same time. You could argue that keeping players is even more important here since more players = more rmah income. In both mmo?s and here they need server farms, in mmo they are paid (mostly) by subscriptions, here the only income is atm from rmah. Less players equals double less income. Double cause less to sell, less to buy, thus blizzard looses twise. In mmo, 1 player leaving is just one sub, here 1 player leaving is a potential seller AND buyer. Hope that makes sense :)

Guys this is a game for the years. I don't even know how often I started up D2 again and just bought a bit of gear here and there. D3 wil probably be the same once they get the ladder system up and running (can't imagine they wouldn't go for it)

well think about anyone starting off in the game now.
They have to play all zones normal, nightmare and hell
they spend some of their hard earned gold on the AH along the way and finish hell.
Wow I am done and have 200K gold. WEEEEEEE
yea and inferno gear won't cost you more than 20 million.
WTF do you mean 20million.
yea thats cheap

HUH

ok blizzard is there to help.
only $200 and you will be good to go. Get in the RMAH and spend, spend, spend $$$$$$$$$

no thanks, F you blizzard.

and people have quit in droves.
So 50 people spending $200 does not come close to 1 million spending $10

overall this game setup is massive fail

all blizzard is looking foreward to is

ladder yep can't wait to throw it all away and start over...great fun.
$$$$$$$$$ for bliz

all they see if the $$ in hand and not the big picture.
but I think they are trying to draw a smiley face on a bad picture.

I understand that and agree on the basis of MOST of these types of Games are not long lived, but in relation to Diablo 2 and how successful it was Diablo 3 has went under alot faster than I think alot of people had expected. Honestly I understand that more than most, due to the fact my gaming in WoW and other MMO started after Diablo 2 as a result of wanting something else to do but that was several years later, and alot of banned accounts from botting. In no way was I comparing the 2 creatures because that alone is the simple fact of truth about them, but stating that it probably will be slower and losing people until major patches and or expansions hit that re-utilize how the game play works. The system of Diablo is magic find and getting better gear, compared to Diablo 2 its a very poor system imo. Then again when Diablo 2 first came out it was not the most impressive system as well and took time to make it what it is today. I know alot of diehard Diablo fans care more for D2 and would rather play that than D3, all D3 has is pretty graphics compared to gameplay of D2.

I remember reading back before it actually came out that they had no intention to have a ladder system in this diablo. I myself was baffled because it was the one thing that saved D2 economy from being virtually useless, and with the RMAH you would think they would want that for more spending , and at the same time it could be con-traversal.

If you have only 200k after finishing hell, you're doing it wrong.

Plus, you can gear to go deep in inferno on <5m.

Yeah like you can code everything in 4 years. I wonder when people will actually start to think... coding is a function of manpower. The benefits you have coding in the year 2012 over 2008 are not that great as you imagine.

It is not like half the code is already done because we have a couple of years more in development technology.

Yeah but the devs are keen to changes. From their perspective and planning it would have to take MONTHS to clear inferno. Then after MONTHS ilvl 63 would actually start to pour in etc so generally speaking the endgame loot would have come much much slower.

However now they already switched their mind and need to refocus. They will do it no doubt but it doesn't come time free. You are also right that D2 was a pile of garbage when it came out. Granted blizzard played this as if it was one of their first releases at all and basically left all 'first to check out' abuses open, but it will come.

I am not a fanboy either but at some point you have to be realistic todays gamer scene is just never happy. How can people even complain about crappy loot in a game that is done once you have the gear. It is moronic beyond reason. They refused the inferno challenge, they refuse to grind. What are they doing then? Just same ol' same ol'. Going from one game to the next regardless of what developers do.

Had diablo been with 2-4 times the amount of loot already people would already have left anyway. Complaining, that there is no endgame.

I agree completely, the only thing that disappointed me was unbalanced loot system, and a very poor means of traveling via acts and wps, Diablo 2 was good there if it isnt broke dont fix it. Along with the I enjoyed playing with more than 3 friends at a time, the amount if people limited now is just not as enjoyable it really takes a vacant feeling imo.

The fact legendaies get crapped on by blues is not good at all, and they are addressing that, once that is fixed I am sure some money will be made in farming legendaries, I just feel this whole system is a fight from they to try and make bots not as effective. That and the fact that they did not open beta up enough to fully get a good perspective of Item stats and how they would play a role in the game, for instance Increased Attack Speed and Crit hit damage. Allowing it to have gone on and people become dependent in what they geared for, and then nerfing it so much when it flat across the board hurt all classes, was not good business practice. When it comes to Blizz thats known as is, something works really good? shit nerf it. (then again RMAH was developed for the sole purpose to make money what better than to cause people to cycle gear so much? probably expect a later buff to all nerfd stats and a turning cycle that never stos due to limited inventory etc.

Yeah the legendaries where a bit sad especially since D2 had the very same issue and they patched the good legendaries in afterwards. Then they took the affix system of D2 and took out the utter bullshit. Light Radius, effects on hit, stuff like that that isn't even mentioned in the D3 forums.

To get a perfect roll in d2 was even harder then it is now since the affix pool iwas so much bigger

Also inferno should have been made more optional. They said inferno was for the hardcore players, yet everyone needed to do it for best gear. Obviously a casual player won't be happy with just clearing hell and stop there. Should have seen that one coming and find a better option for the people that still search a challenge.

Anyway as apoc said there is no subscription here so people will come and check it out after they are done with gw 2 ;)

yes but the challenge they came up with is a mess. Lets make gold and blue groups and give them insane combinations.
I have seen some that were impossible to live 3 seconds and others that you could not kill and died to enrage timers. BOTH of these situations should NOT EXIST.
this is not a challenge this is just stupidity.

a 2 minute patch and call it planning?
again fail.

this pretty much sums up why most people hate blizzard in a comical way
