Playing games while botting

I've had a pretty tough time trying to figure out how to play games on my pc while botting. It seems that unless the game is in windows mode my bots won't function properly. Likewise, my machine isn't good enough to run a VM for either the game or bots.

At the moment, I'm trying to play Dark Forces II from Steam, and there is no option to play in windows mode. Even for modern games like Assassin's Creed that doesn't offer windows mode I have this issue. Any suggestions?
