Demonbuddy User FAQ

Alright, this may belong in the guide subforum but the rookies don't seem to check there so I think we need to have FAQ on the main forum. This is a work in progress and I'm sure I got some things wrong, so constructive criticism and additional questions and answers would be appreciated and credited.

  • Where can I find out how to setup Demonbuddy?
    Guide to Demonbuddy

  • I can't get Demonbuddy to work. Help?
Go the Demonbuddy Support subforum and search for an answer there or post a new thread with a copy of your Demonbuddy log

  • How do I set up Diablo 3 and Demonbuddy to run multiple clients?
The simplest way that seems to work for most users is to create additional D3 installations for each client.
    1. Copy your Diablo III folder (usually located at C:\Program Files (x86)\Diablo III)
    2. Paste the copied folder in the C:\Program Files (x86) directory and name it something like Diablo III 2
    3. Go into the pasted folder and create a desktop shortcut for the DiabloIII.exe file
    4. Right click on the desktop shortcut, select properties, the shortcut tab and change the Target field to "C:\Program Files (x86)\Diablo III 2\Diablo III.exe" -launch
    5. Go to the compatibility tab, run in compatibility mode for Windows XP Service Pack 3 and check the box for "Run this program as administrator".
    5. Launch each client from it's respective shortcut.

You only need one Demonbuddy installation to run all the clients.

  • One or more of my Diablo 3 clients are slow and laggy. How do I fix it?
You may need to change your D3 video options. Go to Options then Video from the main menu. You want to be running each client in windowed 800x600 mode with all qualities set to low and the Low FX box checked. Then you want to set your Max Foreground FPS and Max Background FPS to 60, apply and exit. Otherwise you may have forgotten to copy your D3 folder as detailed in the steps above, your network connection may be poor or your computer's hardware is not powerful enough.

  • What is the safest way to bot?
First off if you are on your main account and don't want to lose it, you probably shouldn't bot on it. While Demonbuddy is undetectable, it is likely that Blizzard is tracking some combination of account hours played, games created and gold picked up to flag likely botters and later manually investigating the accounts and issuing bans. There has been no correlation made between botting a certain number of hours per day, running specific quests or using a particular Demonbuddy profile/plugin. My personal opinion is to run 24/7 and expect to be caught eventually, but maximize profit now. By botting 24/7 you are on more often and are more susceptible to being caught by Blizz, however the have been too few bans to determine if running less is worth the profit loss. Some small things you can do to avoid putting yourself on the radar and being reported by other players is to stay out of public games, leave general chat and don't brag about your botting. Blizzard does seem to be catching bots and linking all the accounts including mules that share the IP address. We don't know how significant of an increase there is of getting caught from multi-botting but logic dictates the more associated accounts and hours you bot, the higher likely hood of you being caught.

  • How can I level my characters with Demonbuddy?
There are several guides and threads on the forum discussing the best profiles to use to level 2-60.
link: Marlhex's Complete Botting Level 2-60
link: grim2594's profiles to level 2-60
    Personally I ran:
    Normal Wretched Queen 2-15
    Normal Zoltan Kulle 16-50
    Hell Leoric's Manor 50-60
(It's been a while since I leveled so someone let me know if these are broke.)

  • What is the best class to bot with?
Right now inferno Sarkoth with a Demon Hunter can achieve the highest GPH and also has a chance of dropping legendaries and ilvl 63 loot. I use Kane49_2's AGB plugin/profile/combat routine and it works great for me. Another option is to run nightmare Core of Arreat with just about any class, but don't expect any loot besides decent gold per hour.

  • Is it safe to use the RMAH from my botting account?
Yes. There have been no correlation between RMAH use and bans. Botters have sold gold and items fine with no repercussions. It is recommended to have a clean mule account. You can simply trade the items from your bots to your clean account to sell on the RMAH. This way if your bots are banned you don't lose everything since clean mules have mostly not been banned with the botting accounts on the same IP/machine. Also you will then only have 1 account linked to your paypal to avoid any suspicions. edit: Some mules are getting caught with their associated bots, might not be worth the extra key.

  • What is the best way to turn my botting gold into cash?
You have a few options with their own pros and cons:
    1. Sell gold on RMAH. You are guaranteed $1.8/mil and you can't get scammed, but the market might be so saturated that you can's sell the gold in the 36 hour auction time.
    2. Buy items on gold AH, resell on RMAH. This has the highest return if you put the effort into it. Great way to use your clean mule account is to sit on the gold AH and wait for bargain items, buy and resell for a $4/mil return.
    3. Sell gold privately or to re-sellers. You can move bulk gold relatively quickly for a low return (less than $1/mil), but you could get scammed and expose yourself to reports from other players.

  • How much gold find and magic find should I have? What gear should I look for to boost my gold per hour?
For running Sarkoth with a DH, I would aim for a minimum 250 gold find with ferrets and follower and about 200 magic find. If you are running Arreat Core get as much gold find as you can afford.
    Some important gear you need:
    1. Socketed helm: put in an emerald or topaz to boost your GF or MF by 20+
    2. Amulet with high GF/MF: amulets have a higher max GF and MF then other armor. Shoot for 30+GF/25+MF amulet
    3. 12% movement speed boots: It never hurts to run faster and they get you halfway to the 25% movement speed cap
    4. 14+ pickup radius: Whether you run Sarkoth or Core, you need some gold pickup radius (more for Core, 20+ yards). I find that belts and gloves are the cheapest to find +radius on.
    5. Max Discipline Quiver or Cloak (DH only, obviously): Helps ensure you have enough discipline to use vault all the way to Sarkoth.
If you are looking for an extra little bit of MF and have some disposable income don't forget the legendary weapons with magic find that are perfect for your follower.

  • What kind of computer do I need to bot 5+ accounts?
A good setup with room for expansion to 10 accounts would be:
    i5 3570k, i7 3770k or AMD 8150 FX CPU
    8 to 16 GB DDR3 RAM
AMD 7850 or Nvidia 560Ti GPU (May be overkill, but good for gaming if you ever quit botting)
    128 GB Solid State Drive
    Asrock Z77 Extreme 4 Motherboard
    650+W Power Supply
    Windows 7 OS

  • If I get banned is my battle.net account with WoW and SC2 also banned?
No. Blizzard bans by game. You will even be able to buy a new copy of D3 and attach that to the battle.net account (not recommended if you plan on botting with the new copy of D3).

  • If I get banned what happens to my RMAH auctions that are "processing"? Can blizzard take the money back from my paypal?
Any items that you have sold should go through processing fine and expect the email stating blizz has sent money to your paypal in the usual 24 hours. Blizzard so far has not tried to take money back from botters' paypals following a ban and we shouldn't expect them to attempt to do so in the future.

  • It has been 72 hours, why can't I trade or use the RMAH on my new Diablo 3 account?
Try changing your battle.net account password and re-logging into Diablo 3.

  • Did they nerf Sarkoth and the Dank Cellar spawn rate?
    NO.

It's a work in progress, will add more answers and improve formatting. I'd also appreciate any other info to include

Gj summing it up. Hopefully it will help, and ppl will stop making even more new threads with the same information inside.

Going to buy new parts for my rig next month. Something with Ivy's i5 or i7("K" version will do) inside, and pretty much the same stuff you've already listed. Will not gonna change my GBT 460 GTX SO, yet. It works flawlessly, I missing some CPU/SSD speed and additional RAMs only.

Thanks. If you know the particular i5 and i7 processors that have the best cost/performance ratio let me know so I can be more specific. Same with graphics cards.

I got 6 bots running on 8 gig ram, 800x600 (not recommended if you plan to do other stuff on it.)

otherwise, i competely agree with this topic. gj +1

Request sticky, and hope OP UPDATES this from time to time!

Btw how do you get different mac address?

Yeah you can get by with 8 GB, but RAM is so cheap right now. I really think it's best to make a computer that will last longer and you can do other stuff on while botting. Who knows if Blizz finds a way to make botting non-profitable, you might as well have invested in a good gaming PC that at the very least you can sell off. That's just my opinion though.

The need of different MAC addresses is debated, who knows if Blizz can even see or checks them. It's just that when you use VMWare it automatically assigns unique MAC addresses for each virtual machine so that they can communicate with each other. You can clone or change a MAC address manually through your network connections, but without virtual machines it will be the same one for every client. I really don't think they matter, so I wouldn't worry about it.

What is the VEEEPEEEN for then? Will vmware give me different ip's?

veepeeen is for different IPs, VMware gives you different MACs. I believe that virtual machines can connect to separate VEEPEEEENS so that each client could have a unique IP and MAC address. VMware also spoofs your hardware ID. I didn't bot WoW so I'm not sure what measures Blizz takes to check IP and MAC addresses or HW IDs.

Why is veeepeeen a banned word?

Is both veeepeeen and vmware free? Would be nice if you added that to your guide:)

Honestly I don't know if they are necessary so i'm omitting specifics. Vmware workstation is free but Veepeeen services are not. I'm not sure why veepeeen is a banned word unless it's along the lines that Bossland thinks it would imply guilt if we resorted to using them.

Added some more questions and answers. Let me know if I'm missing any important topics.

Here's some specific information - Performance/Price wise.

I will gonna list only newest Intel processors, don't want to bother with Sandy anymore. So yeah, Ivy only. I don't know much about AMD Buldozers, but from what I've seen in zillion of test, they are quite slower in general. Even tho they can easily outmatch Intel in term of overclocking and maximum amount of GHZ you can get, and so the price, sadly however - it doesn't make their perfromance better. (Please, AMD fanboys, don't rage on me. It's just my humble opinion based on tests, not arguing here)

Intel Ivy's perf/price wise would be.
Intel Core i5 3570K - Best(in term of price/perf and possibility to overclock) Ivy's i5 out there, cost like ~210Euro in my region. Can be nicely overclocked up to 4+ghz and even more. Depends, if you're gonna use some non-boxed cooler or liquid CS. Imho, this one is the most price/performance efficient CPU you can get.
Intel Core i7 3770K - This one is simply best, but then again, price/performance ratio a little lower in my opinion then i5 3570 has. Cost nearly ~310Euro. Obviously you want to get this one to maximize your performance possibilities.
Not going to list anything else that cost like 500+ euro, because mainly it's not that useful as one may think it is. Both CPUs I've listed can be overclocked really high and provide you amazing performance for its price.

For those who wants good CPU and in the same time don't want to overclock anything, you should go for i5 3550/i5 3570 or i7 3770 without "K", because "K" means "unlocked" and stands for overclocking possibilities. You can save some euros that way.
As for AMD, I would like to see good alternatives, if someone can provide.

CPU Wise

I7 930 I am able to bot 10 D3s using Radeon HD 7850 and my CPU load is only 70%
FX 8150 Overclocked to 4.4 with the same Video card can do 15+
Phenom X6 1100T can bot 8 with CPU load at 90% overclock it and you can do more.

Won't get into the CPU debate here but the FX 8150 is preferred for boxing because it beats the I5s in multithread benchmarks which is what matters here. Otherwise spend the $ on an I7.

*all of this is with isboxer.

There are no comparable AMD processors. They are junk.

Well well there.. Don't be that hursh. :)

However imho, i7 930(45nm) is quite old one and can't be compared properly with FX 8150(32nm) which is kinda new. At least compare it with Sandy.
Also, in the same time, lets not forget about VMs performance, that is also matters for us quite a lot.
