I have been using HB and GB for a few months now, and have always taken precaution to rename my exes to other common apps (like Winamp, for example). I wasn't sure how effective it was until I read a post today over at the Glider forums regarding Warden.

Not sure how valid this guys' claims are, but it would appear that Blizz and Warden are sniffing window names, amongst other things.

So, do you rename your exes? Have you been banned? Inquiring minds would like to know.

i dont, its too much work, if i wasnt lazy, i would do it =) but i havent been banned yet.
 
well from my understanding .. gb and hb make a randomized file in app data folder to run from after the exe is enabled with profile and settings..

but from reading the computer scientist it seems warden is like a super spyware.. but i dont think blizzard can be big brother of the internet.. and my windows isnt genuine they gonna come get me for that too ..
 
Warden does not search outside the process. Pointless. Even if it did, a minor piece of code could be used to get around the rename. Really pointless.

Care to elaborate?

I'm interested in hearing from some people who have been banned, especially those banned multiple times. I think we can conclude that they are checking IPs and/or MAC addresses. It wouldn't be too far fetched to think they are also looking at other running processes. Wasn't there some suit against them for doing this previously?

Seems like the general consensus that the guy on Glider forums is full of shit?
 
I hope they search all my processes, I only have 100 of them going with all my open apps. I should create a porn process for them too. Maybe that will give them something else to do besides sniff around on my computers.

Warden isn't allowed to scan outside the WoW process based on the ToS. If they really wanted to, they would just check the signature of the process running anyway against the known hb/gb versions.
 
I do but I doubt that it does anything at all. I only started because the original documentation for gb said too lol
 
Never once changed the .exe of any bot i have used for wow and never got banned apart from GB banwave.
 
No i dont.. dont think it would safe your ass from a ban, sry to say.
 
I changed it from Honorbuddy.exe to Honorbuddy.bob but now it wont work.

well as someone else said, they'd most likely scan for a signature instead of a file name, but considering the legal/political ramifications of them doing it, I doubt they do... Way back when I believe it did do this, and the outcry was huge.

Wikipedia has some nice info there, not sure on accuracy & currency, but he, it's wikipedia, it doesn't have to be correct.
 
I always change mine out of habit from the Glider days.
 
Warden does not read window names, Warden does not read the names of running processes. It hashes them and then compares to a list of known hashes. While Warden used to do some such stuff Blizzard ran scared when the lawsuits came.
