Should I upgrade?

What is up with each Diablo using 15-20% CPU on my i5-2500k?

currently have:

i5-2500k (4.0GHz)
8 GB RAM
2x HD6950 2GB

My mb can support an ivy-bridge CPU. I've already ordered some more RAM.

Should I make the jump to a hyper threading CPU to get more "cores"?

I could go with 3770k or even 2600k to get HT.

I understand that the i7-3930k has 6 cores and HT. I have a socket 2011 mb that I could use.

Any suggestions?

Not an expert but i thought that there were next to no gains for hyperthreading in gaming?

You should upgrade every year and sell your old stuff on Craigslist so it doesn't depreciate to the point you have to throw it away when you're done. :/

Would one of the 6-8 core Bulldozer AMD's outperform a i5 2500k / i5 3750k running multiple D3 clients? Because I was planning on getting a 3570k for my next build, if AMD will beat it, prolly pick up one of those instead... The AMD has to be under $180 though (microcenter has 3750k for $180).

why i5? The i7 (HT) CPUs should easily beat out the AMD ones.

Hyper threading doubles the threads, which is (basically the same as) doubling the cores. In fact windows sees it as doubling the cores.

Low budget.

There is most defiantly hypothetically performance gains when hyper threading is introduced. Most games dont use more than 4 cores though so if you're on an i5 it wont help you.(much)
I'm running 4x D3's on-

I5 3570k (Stock turbo)
8GB Corsair Vengeance
Z77 Extreme 4 AsRock
10k HDD (No SSD :()
Sapphire Radeon 6870 HD (Stock)

Getting anywhere between 60-85% cpu usage with background programs and netflix up.

D3 Graphics settings - lowest res, preference text changes, and all lowest graphics settings and i'm getting ~30fps easy on all

Your I5-2500k is fine for anything right now. If anything OC it. It's pretty easy. If anything find out where your bottlenecks at and upgrade there. Check Task manager CPU/RAM. I doubt its your GPU and its most likely your RAM. Check your cas latencies. Not all ram is the same. Also check and make sure your not running any background programs. Try and optimize your Video settings, play around and see what works best.

>_< found out the issue.

I had background fps unlimited.
I set that to 20. CPU usage for each D3 is now ~5%.. A nice saving of 20% per instance.
Demonbuddy uses more :P

The idea behind getting 8 cores is to set the affinity so each d3 only uses 1 core. This spreads the load across all cores.

I was gonna say. .
I have the exact same setup as you (ONly overclocked i5 to 4.6 thought) and i can run up to 10 clients simultaniously without problem. Maybe even more but have no need to atm.

20fps per window? ...How slow are your runs? I tried turning mine down and it added 10+ seconds.

17 seconds when cellar spawns.

That's just the background fps, foreground is unlimited.

Weird, I don't have a legitimate FPS monitor on my D3 window... but going off the options, anything below "100FPS" (150 being default) affects my times. Average being 16 seconds.

not sure mate. I just set "Max Background FPS" to 20 in Options, works fine for me. No slowdowns at all.
