xp or seven

7 imo, xp doesn't have a lot of compatible drivers for a lot of the newer hardware :(

this, and I hear there finally gonna stop adding extensions on to the already 20 year overdue support of XP lol... but then again MS has said this for years
 
i dont know i have original win 7 and i have lot of problems... sound in broweser gone some time all crash.. so i think go back to XP for some time x)

You'll keep support for the Os longer and have more compatibility. It's also less work on your part to take care of it (windows update for example) and a whole lot prettier :) (i like the pretty ehh..)
 
If you have something to sit on for now I'd do that. I'm suspect soon you can buy windows 7 with a free upgrade to 8 when it launches. Now I'm not saying windows 8 will be better and you should upgrade right away on launch day just that it's looking like a launch could be within the year with the announcement of the win8 phone and the Surface.

edit: Win 8 projected for July with the phone/Surface this fall. But nothing set in stone yet.

That is a good question and I really haven't been following win8 that much. I haven't followed an OS since I left Vista hell. It is possible, I just remember that when I built this computer win 7 was weeks away so they gave me a free upgrade when I bought vista. I'm also assuming that they will do this with Win7 to Win8 which could be completely untrue but it seems logical to me that they do it otherwise they won't see sales of an OS or decreases sales as everyone waits for the next.
