Hey guys,

Just out of interest who runs WoW in a virtual environment? im looking to run several instances of WoW on my PC each in its own Virtual PC but unsure which VM Product to use as i hear a few struggle with the 3D graphics WoW uses. Any advice appreciated please

Thanks

Just out of curiosity what would be the purpose of running it on a VM?

Paranoia? Some people prefer security and risk avoidance to potential bans. Avoid the theory crafting and put in the effort and you could avoid multiple bans potentially. Right?

I don't see this working unless you route each VM trough a different proxy/vpn and get a different IP for each one.

Is running on a VM even possible? I always thought they didn't play well with graphics rendering...

yes it is, i do this in VMware, to play other games while boting. :D

"3D acceleration works. Currently, it is approx. equivalent to what you'd get running a GeForce 2/4 card. Maybe a little more. But think of this as a child, growing up to become a 3D bully. This is a tremendous and important step for all hardcore fans of virtualization. In the next article, we'll see the same done using VirtualBox and OpenGL applications."

source.
3D acceleration in virtual machines - Part 1: VMware & DirectX - Tutorial

VMware Workstation v8 works great, Win7 whit 2g of memory and give at least one core to run wow.

M8, i think this Tutorial you have is outdated, VMWARE already have a 3D acceleration whit it. just need to install VMWARE tools.
Sorry English

Don't really see the reason why you should bot on a VM. Waist of performance imo.

I use VM and VPN for each of my accounts I run 3 accounts 1 my main that I dont bot on and 2 others that I level and bot on. the 2 others are on VM with different IP's also lets say you got banned for something like gold selling all you really gotta do is login with a different IP and say it got hacked :) and if 1 account gets banned they all wont. when setting up a VM you get different mac addresses along with IP's

i tried this and got auto banned with only 20 minz botting but 5 hrs later on 2 fresh accounts, i guess it was openvpn ip that got me banned

chances are its because of the switch in ip-address, they automatically lock down accounts that log on from 2 radicly different places in a short amount of time to prevent people from hacking the account.

I use strongvpn they are great for service! .....Yea I was testing it out and forgot to login on the VPN service and got temp locked out but after that I always make sure I am logged in my vpn before logging into wow

i was pretty sure i purchased openvpn, tested ip and then created the account, but idk i could have done something wrong and the ban happened a few hours after i logged off and was perma

if you wanna use GB2 keep in mind honorbuddy devs still did not (and it seems not plan to) fixing annoying "can't do this while moving" bug on 80% nodes under windows XP and ~30-50% nodes while under windows 7 while under virtual env.
http://www.thebuddyforum.com/honorbuddy-forum/support-issues/46845-cant-do-while-moving.html
it it s a huge drop in nodes/hr and it make you look like a bot cause you just stand stupid in front of node like retard for a 3 sec (and like ~4-5sec with later hb releases)

so you want get used to gb1 if you want to keep good gathering rate.

you want alot of ram tho or fast ssd for virtual ram if you want to run 6+ VM's and much more if your going to use windows 7 (which is only option for gb2 because of lower % of "cant do this while moving bug")
ah and alot cpu power for sure, you want to have monster pc to run 10+ clients. ~4500+mhz i7. on i5 4900mhz i run 8.

edit: ah and yea, Player works better than Workstation for some reason. Dont bother with workstation despite its looking more professional somewhat.

Got a screenshot of that would like to see :) Im running 4 atm on my i7 laptop with 16gig of ram smooth as hell

I was running vmware on my windows 8 build and had win7 set as my virtual pc just so i could bot

i dont know why everyone trys to use vpn and virtual machines etc....

i been using it from my laptop with no problems what so ever

i watch my bot 90% of the time if im having it quest i watch it 100% of the time

ill afk ARCH sometimes ill go out and eat

or ill use BG buddy and set logmeout for 2 hours before i go to bed...

i never bot in uldum for herbs or mines....

ive had a few whipsers so far in bgs but because of log me out they have always kicked me and logged me off when i got those messages

i say screw all the bs and just bot it up if u get banned appeal it if u cant get it back then make a new account or quit wow

many new games coming out anyway such as tera D3 GW2 once those come out i really dont think ill care about wow anymore and just bot a whole bunch of toons to 85
