Developer Rules Update

Sorry, but this is WRONG! If you ever read the Dev rules before the update, it clearly stated that abandoned projects are considered "free-to-abuse".
exactly.
This new rule calls out for abuse and copying others.
I have had several conversations with either people posting changed versions in our topics or asking if they can post small updated CCs under their own name. Now I don't know how you people feel about your projects that you've worked on a lot, getting stolen - but I personally feel that its ripping off people who worked hard

As a consequence of this, I will have a talk with the other members of the lazyraider CC group about pulling all our CCs down.
This new rule will produce copy paste CCs that won't be supported and will make current developers annoyed with false versions flowing around.

Why not wait and see. Post back in a month with a count of these false versions that are being used.

We've just had the same discussion with our team and decided to temporarily remove all versions of Dunatank's Warrior CC from the forums, until this has been settled.

This. I think people are overreacting.
My first impression was the same as Venus' (and the others), but then I realize things probably won't change much.

Honestly I think that everything that could be said about this has been said, so why don't we just wait and see?

It is settled.

Don't worry, under the new rules they are free to distribute since they use the code. If they won't repost them cause their e-peen is so large, I will GLADLY repost them for them.

I don?t think that this is allowed because the CC?s where developed before the new rules where published?!

Oh don't worry, I am not breaking any rules. Since you pulled the CC's and they are no longer supported, that would mean they are archived. So, even under the old Dev Rules, as previously stated by you:

It is "free-to-abuse"!!!

Exactly, plus we've used svn to distribute many updates, so they do not fall under the hb forums

I have to agree with this. Let's not get carried away and pay developers some respect.
Rules changed, ok. Now they can either take down their work or leave it. If they leave it, it's fair game.

Unfortunately, I have the impression you do not understand what my post said.

As stated, the measures we have taken are temporary. (cf. Temporary - Definition and More from the Free Merriam-Webster Dictionary) Thus, it means the project is still being taken care of, developed further and users receive support - only the downloadable files have been removed. So basicly, even if you say the thread were to be archived, as there are no files on it, there is nothing to alter and/or re-upload.

Even under the old rules, abandoned projects (if someone is pulling a CC, then it is not longer supported; even though many people still use it, hence now it's abandoned) are free to be picked up by the community and continued on.

I just don't understand the outrage. I get the "I spent X time developing Y and don't like people stealing my work" argument. No one is stealing anything, if it turns out it's better, the developer is free to pull it into there CC and use, thus rendering the new addition irrelevant, which in turn makes people not use it as the original one, updated by the original developer, already incorporated the needed change that wasn't addressed.

As far as I see, you have never created and uploaded any CC or plugin. Now I wonder how you can possibly presume what the devs feel like.

Pulling files down is not going to win you the support of your user base, they will either develop their own CC or move on and find something better.

You are absolutely correct. I didn't realize our lives are defined by the amount of CC's or plugins we upload to Honorbuddy Forums. Please for give me for having out of WoW experience. I now feel ashamed and see your point of view now.

It is a way of raising awareness. Without measures like these, most users won't see the gravity of the situation.

Thus providing clutter on the forums.
We made the CCs under old rules and therefore we should have the opportunity to take down our projects and those projects taken completely down should be deemed not allowed to rip.
It's only fair since they just sprung this updated rule upon us

There is neither any reason for nor any point in becoming sarcastic. But if something primarily does not concern me, I would not argue against those who are indeed affected.

Well, I'm done posting here. I'll follow Hawker on this one and watch the thousands of copied CC/plugins that come pouring in and then admit you are right.
