Why is there no donation button? Or other methods for gathering money being explored?

In light of recent changes (Lifetime key removal, price change and the closer of some bots) has been a clear sign that Bossland needs more money be it for development of new bots/servers costs/legal battle and is in bad financial place.

I am wondering why is there no official donation button on the forums? A lot of projects are kept alive by such donations not limited to private servers of many games, mobile games, and forums.

For me it makes more sense for HB to adopt this method of gathering funds more than bad PR decisions that may have bad long term impact for the community and business.

However

There may be other ways for Bossland to gather additional money, one such way may be putting ads on the forum or advertising. I presume that this forum is producing fair traffic and some advertisement for specific items such as PC parts or other bot related items. Still a donation button is a lot less invasive than ads.

Maybe even opening the T-shirt store would not be a bad idea.

Just my 2 cents.
 
The short answer for donations is: nobody would donate.

I've ran Azyul for 4years and made a total of $65 from donations off of it. This pack was the biggest pack on the forum at one time with the most active users and downloads.
Not to mention a donation button was added to the official questing pack 3months ago, and not a single dime as came through to it. And it's the biggest pack on the forum as of now.

For me, the $1-$5 donation I do get every other month is looked at as not monetary, but motivation that some people still care since there's rarely positive feedback these days.
If donations were pushed on the forum and we asked people to help us out, there would probably be a bit more - but it wouldn't be enough.



Advertisements on the forums is doable, but that's something that Bossland would have to decide on.
It's not really up to any of us for discussing that.



We've also discussed products such as T-Shirts, but they aren't profitable as Hawker stated.
To produce T-Shirts in a profitable manner, we'd have to bulk order the shirts quantities of 1,000+ which would probably be a few dollars per shirt.
 
Eitherway, the selling of merchandise like t-shirts or donations would have made more sense before the announcement. If bossland or whoever had pitched an idea to raise funds, maybe the interest would have been there to help out and support the company. He could have did this and said if this doesnt work, well we are going to have to move onto a new subscription plan and laid out the new plans he just announced.

Instead he went the complete wrong way about it and alienated most of his subscribers, in turn potentially burying hb instead. I mean who now would buy a t-shirt? I'd guess at the number being so low that you wouldnt even make back the cost of making a batch of them.

As for the v3 excuse laid out in another thread, that is the biggest load of bullshit i think i've ever read on this forum and i've read some pretty stupid things.

I would Donate. but that's me personally. but I'm also the guy who donated to the PimpMyGuild guy who never updated his shit.

Lol 100% agreed. Bought Legendary status to help out. I never use it. I've only used 4 out of my 8 sessions ever.
 
there is girl scouts making enough money to pay for trips to other countries by selling cookies>>> how do you figure selling shirts would have not been profitable

Don't donate a dime to a company if they are a for-profit business.

There's a thousand ways a company can raise revenue without needing donations.

If they wanted to stay in business, they should be offering sales/additional merchandise/building new and exciting infrastructure that both new and old users would be willing to pay for.

It just goes to show that Bossland has no damn clue how to run a business.

The issue here is that: when Bossland made the announcement that lifetime keys were no longer being supported, it was 1day before the announcement that the court said that he must pay a huge amount of money.
The first payment is expected in 1week.

It was either shut down Honorbuddy, or do something that can earn a bunch of money quick.
And of course the only thing that can earn a bunch of money quick would be to end lifetime keys since they have caused a hemorrhage in the bots overall funds since 2014.

If he had known ahead of time, (like a month) then perhaps things would have been handled much differently. Perhaps a donation drive would have been hosted.
But I can't say so for myself. I'm just a contractor who provides free stuff for the community. :) I have no role in making these decisions as I prefer not to be the guy who does.

T-shirts would be a cool thing, walking down the city just to see does anybody else bots in your town, and like joking on the streets when you bump into each other :D
 
Set it up..me and the wife would donate to keep something we love and cherish up and running. Would it make sense to run a Poll to see just how many people would donate? Just a thought.

Why touch the goods yourself?

Simply make designs and let others do the rest.

That is understandable, as i said it is looking like bossland has some major financial problems even without knowing the exact sum he needs to pay and the money he makes from the bots.

I presume that there are/were thousands of lifetime sessions active and even if it was a bad PR move to say the least its better to keep the bot alive. The gold farmers/gold sellers will resub I for sure am making more than 2 euro profit a month will just have to add another expense in bottom line.

However on the topic that bossland was not aware that he would need to pay such a huge amount in such a short time. My opinion is that he should be prepared for such a event if it comes.

I see no reason for a donation button not to exist and to be put today or tomorrow. It cost nothing its easy to make and i think that you may be underestimating the willingness of people to help if they are reminded monthly with a report what is going on the legal side of things and to consider helping. A little sympathy goes a long way i believe. And even if it just 100 euro collected per month in 12 months it is still 12 000 euro.

As for merchandise they don't need to compete for the lowest price as I/we (hope that more people think like me) don't mind spending couple of extra euros to get the wasp. I actually want a white cup and the wasp on it to drink tea and i rally need a new mouse pad. And by reading the comments some people don't mind buying and walking around with a t-shirt.

Thing is hope Bossland start to prepare from now in case he needs more money in the future and if such a time does not come and he win every single court case i hope there is a day that he will surprise us with something nice with all the gathered fund.

I would instantly resub with all my sessions if they could assure us that they are going to provide the full year of service. But they can't, and I can't force myself to pay for a year of something that could be gone in March.

About the donations, let's be clear; people asking for a donation button are doing so in the hopes that a mistery billionarie is gonna show up and fund BL with a million $. That is not gonna happen; donations only worked when there was not such a thing as the Buddystore, and people actually thanked those who made great profiles by tipping them. Others are, and forever will be, leeches.

Right now, Devs get 3 waypoints together, call that a profile and try to milk the dead cow at the BuddyStore. Greed has taken over, and it should be gone for the good of the company. Sad that they can't realize that.

So, Donations would not help. At all. That's an excuse for people trying to get others to fund the company instead of them.
