I'm saying that the time you wasted to think of this retort was worth more than the difference in money you'd save on your electricity bill worrying about the difference in energy consumption those ticks per second are costing you. I'm also saying that people who make a living from botting are generally more concerned with their cost per bot, as they are trying to maximize profits.
Okay lets calculate. Lets say you have a really energy efficient build. For example a GTX960 and a current i5.
My D3 is pulling 10% CPU if I cap fps @ 60 and 5% if I cap @ 30. If I dont cap it pulls 30% cpu.
My D3 is pulling 15% GPU if I cap fps @ 60 and 8% if I cap @ 30. If I dont cap it pulls 45% gpu.
As GPU and CPU are your main energy sources in a computer im going to assume that a non-capped D3 pulls 3-6 times as much energy.
My example build will use around 250watts at 100% usage. (both 120watts for cpu and gpu).
With cap that would be 6 watts for cpu and 10 watts for gpu at best. So 16 watts total usage.
Without cap that would be 36 watts for cpu and 54 watts at worst. So 90 watts total usage.
Thats a difference of 74 watts. That makes:
0,074kwh * 24 hours * 365 days = 648KWH/y
In my country 1kwh costs 25cents 648 * 0,25 = 168€
So if you bot 24 hours a day you can safe 168€ in electrity per year if you cap your D3 per bot.
If you are running something like a older GTX card, GTX 680 for example you can easily double this calculation.
Do you still think its not worth it?
