Official: Blizzard WoW Token, legit gold buying

No idea regarding gold prices but as someone who doesn't bot for profit it should be great. Bot to play wow for free? Sounds good!

When I played EVE I had multiple accounts botting to pay for themselves. It'll be interesting to see what the gold value for gametime ends up at.
 
Only thing that sucks is we cant resell it and it has to be on AH. I was hoping we could just kill the market for these increasing the cost of gold. I was really hoping to spam chat with a few accounts selling and undercutting everyone while not actually selling so people think the prices is lower, done this many times with other items so I can get tons of it for cheap and then hike up the cost when selling them. Well see how good this works. Hopefully they put a low gold cost on them, raising the gold to $ ratio for us.
 
Well on one hand it will raise gold demand if we are able to give more gold than the gold price of a token we win, we are going to target new clients since they can buy their subscription with golds
If a token cost 30k gold and if you are able to sell 30k gold less than 13€ you will win
Problem is that the price of golds is going to be fixed by token buyers now

i am unfamiliar with this. what exactly do you mean we cant resell it? you cant trade it f2f? give it to a friend? if you can, then you can resell it. just like you would selling gold to a buyer. you would trade your token to the buyer and receive paypal. id assume just like battlechests are sold by trading gold to a reseller.

The AH will have a separate place to sell these tokens, it is the only place you can get rid of it. You either use it or put it on the AH. You also dont get to pick the price, Blizzard sets the price. Also once it is bought off the AH you can no longer put it on the AH again.
 
These tokens will effectively skyrocket the value of gold. I was excited when I saw this, but this could easily lead to a new focused clampdown on botting.

I only play for fun and I haven't had much of a reason to farm for gold since resources are easy to come by this expac. Or maybe I'm wrong. Instead, Blizzard may end up passively profiting more from bots through token buying/selling than they ever had with subscriptions.

Regardless, this has me feeling more cautious about my botting.

skyrocketing? how? only person i see benefitting from this is a farmer.

Once I saw this announcement, this forum is the first place I thought of posting.

I am really interested in how this will effect the economy. I think I will bust out my pen and paper and use my economic schooling to see if I can figure out what will happen to the price of gold and botting.
You know, for science.

i read the post and honestly, why go through all the trouble of making all the AH bullshit. Why not sell gold in the blizzstore, and have an ingame vendor that sells a limited amount of gametime tokens for gold. limited to the amount of available tokens bought in the blizzstore.

one entry in the blizzstore. one vendor. but hey, probably why im not a blizzard developer. besides, the creative developers who worked on professions have plenty of time on their hands. after turning out such winners as 'Haste Taladite' and the ever popular 'Mastery Taladite' I can hardly wait what they have planned for Tokens.

i dont think the gold prices will change much. i use imagined numers to make my calculation easier to show.

gold price now is 0.20us$/k
gametime now is 10$/month

this means a 1 month gametime token is worth 50k gold (50k*20cent is 10$)
if the gametime token in AH will be sold for less than 50k, people will buy it. cos it is cheaper for them to buy 50k gold than buying it for 10$ somewhere else.
if the token is sold for more than 50k, people just buy it for 10$ somewhere else.

so assume, people go crazy and buy gold like hell, producing a massive demand. goldprice will raise to 0.40$/k
this would mean a token would only be worth 25k gold (40cent * 25k = 10$)
if the auction house selling price is over 25k, see above. people go to but the gametime for real$, cos it is 10 $

so the gametime tokens are somehow a way to stabilize the gold price.
but thats just my 100gold (2 cents)

Essentially what we are hoping is Blizz sets the gold price for tokens low. This will require gold sellers to increase their gold/$ price. We are hoping its around 25k. That will increase the price we sell gold for.

i dont think that will work. chinese do the market. blizzard reacts.
if they set it to 25k/token. what will happen? people buy gold form 3rd party sites and create demand. right now, same numbers as above: 25k=5$. people will buy gold like crazy. and brokers are not stupid. they will see within minutes the explosion of demand and raise their selling prices to 9$ for 25k. it is still 1$ cheaper then buy gametime in retail. people still buy. buy less then before, cos gold price almost doubled. so demand will fall, and brokers are forced to lower the prices again until a stable value is reached..

i am curious too, what will happen. but to be honest, i don't expect much change.

Why would their prices fall though? As long as its less than blizz they win, people will buy. There is no reason for them to lower their prices even more. We also have to realize these will not be selling for $10. they will sell for $18 more likely. Game time costs $15, they wouldnt undercut themselves, only raise the cost with the added feature to make gold off of it.
 
why would the prices fall again? cos supply will be higher than demand again. same as it was before. technically 9$ is still cheaper than 10$. sure. but if they have 100m/server in stock they will try to sell it. even if they have to give it away for 2$. why? cos they always live with the risk of getting their gold banned.
many of us know sally i believe. i am talking pretty much to her. in november she lost 2m thru banns. december about 1.5m. and she is just 1 of the brokers.
thats why there is always such a big difference in the prices brokers pay us, and sell to others.

Except if demand was that low they wouldnt continue to buy gold from people. They are not going to lose money on any deals.
