Hi folks,

I've been struggling the last few days to get Archeage to run in VMware. My setup is:

- Windows 8.1 x64 host
- Windows 7 x86 guest (or x64 guest, tried both)
- VMware Workstation 10.0.4

I have tried multiple guides:

- [Tutorial] ArcheAge VMWare open several times
- https://www.thebuddyforum.com/archebuddy-forum/184350-simple-tips-run-archeage-vmware.html
- https://www.thebuddyforum.com/archebuddy-forum/179193-vmware.html

All of which say basically the same few things:

- Install the standalone DirectX
- Delete or rename all registries with "VMware SVGA 3D" as a data value
- Edit the .vmx file and add a few lines (each guide has a slight variation)

And tada, everything works. Unfortunately, I've tried all of these combinations without any luck. Maybe it's VMware 10.0.4 (bleeding edge), or maybe it's something else?

As soon as HackShield starts up, it must detect something, because it opens my browser to the HackShield support page.

Anyways, any help would be greatly appreciated. I've spent more time that seems necessary on this

I have noticed a lot of people were skipping the step that included deleting the string @oem9.inf;%svga%;VMware SVGA 3D - It was located under HKLM_System_CurrentControlSet001_Enum_PCI and I had to use an offline registry editor for it to work. (Look up tutorials on how to boot into a .iso such as hiren's boot or offline registry editor). There's also been report of people not fulling shutting down the guest machine when editing the .vmx file.

https://www.thebuddyforum.com/archebuddy-forum/184350-simple-tips-run-archeage-vmware.html <-- I followed this tutorial step by step and it worked.

Well the registry edit on the guest OS for the video type is to prevent Archeage telling you that you cannot run on a VM. Hackshield issue can be a few things, if your client is not fast enough you will get Hackshield page. Make sure you have the proper configuration that someone else linked here, except, drop your cores to 2 and memory to 2gb. When you are not using your VM client make sure to minimize it to the tray and then also minimize your VM.

I run 3 f2p client on the VM and one main client. Total of 4 clients with no issues.

May I ask what your PC specs are??

May I ask what your PC specs are??

Sure. It is nothing special. I have a Asus M5A97 R2.0 mobo, FX 6300 overclocked to 4.4 ghz, 16 gb of DDR3 1866, 240 gb SSD raid (2 x 120 gb in raid 0) and a Asus R9 270X OC with 4 gb memory, finally a Sound Blaster Z. I run the my main OS o the SSD raid along with my main patron client. I have a 500 GB mechanical drive that I run VMware and and the 3 virtual machines on (I want to swap this drive with another SSD cause load times in the virtual machines are quite slow, specially if all 3 are working at the same time). I built this PC about 9 months ago as a temporary computer until the new Intel cpu come out. But frankly I am not so sure I want one now, I may just get a performance mobo and get the top of the line AMD cpu and save a 1000 dollars. I have been impressed with what this FX 6300 can handle considering I basically cheaped out on the whole build expecting to replace it in a year.

The key to virtual machine performance is to distribute the load to all the cores, I configured each VM to use 2 cores (archeage requires 2 cores), the 6300 is 6 core cpu so each VM uses different 2 cores. My main patron client uses the spare capacity of all 6 cores. Another key is that when you are not using them, minimize your clients to the task bar in all your virtual machines, then minimize your VMware. With all the VM minimized (the games are still running but have become background tasks) and my main client up I run at about 80% cpu, that is with the main client running max settings. When not playing I minimize the main client and my cpu run about 45%. It typically takes me 20 minutes to fire everything up from a fresh reboot, I reboot every 48 hours. This is why I want to replace the 500 gb mechanical drive with another SSD.

The virtual machine clients run lag free at minimum settings (other then a bit of load lag when running through housing areas). But remember when you are not working the client, minimize it.

Anyway I hope this helped.
