This is really weird, but my screen freezes up for no reason. I can hear the game playing and db is still running as normal but the screen is frozen. Is anyone experiencing this issue? I have tried to fix this with several different ways but it still randomly does it. I've tried to lower my gfx settings to the bare minimum, run it in window mode, upgrade and downgrade my gfx drivers, uninstalled d3 and reinstall. No matter what it always happens. I have a pretty good system as well so that can't be the issue. I can play any game on ultimate with no issues except D3 and the freezing screen problem. Does anyone have a solution to this?

System Specs:
Nvidia GTX 980
Samsung 950 1Tb SSD
WD Black 2Tb 7200rpm HDD
I7 950 @ 3.5ghz
Evga Sli3 mobo
8ghz ram
Windows 7 Ultimate

I guess you forgot to say running multi clients. No solution. Specs does not matter.

mine was freezing as well what i did to stop this was to open a internet window full screen in front of it so now when my monitor goes to sleep and i move the mouse to bring it back up D3 non longer freezes, as for the cause i have no idea

I had the same issue. I fixed it by disabling "Use Windows XP style DPI scaling". Im on Windows 7 fyi.

Control Panel -> Hardware and Sound -> Display -> Set custom text size (DPI) -> Uncheck "Use Windows XP style DPI scaling"

Click OK and and reboot your computer. Hopefully that works for you too.

It works to me. Thank you a lot!

Sadly enough it did not work for me. This issue has been discussed in wowhead and battlenet-diablo3 forums. Many solutions were proposed. Every solution worked for someone and made him happy, but none worked for everybody. So we the unlucky ones are still waiting... and hoping.

Gonna try disabling that myself, as for a quick fix (Win7 64bit), Open 'Screen resolution' every time it does it, will instantly refresh the rendering.

:EDIT: After checking I had DPI scaling off, so this is another did not work post.

Before I found the fix that worked for me, I created a macro that did cntrl-alt-delete and esc. That will make your d3 screen unfreeze too.

I just unchecked it and i will report back if it works! Thanks for giving me something to try. This whole thing is just annoying.

Would you please share the macro?

I just used my mouse software to record a macro and bound that to a button.
Okay, thank you. BTW, something that did work for me today is a more powerful PSU. I was using a 520w, and when I replaced it with a 850w, both of good quality, the problem disappeared. Now, before anybody gets his hopes up, this is another solution mentioned in the forums that might not work for everyone. But if you can get your hands on a better/stronger psu, it might be worth a try.

yep, manually ctrl-alt-del fixes it for me too, macro would be great thanks.

Open notepad, Type Taskmgr Click Save As, change .txt to all files, save as <name>.bat

Will open Task Manager (when you close Task Manager, the CMD window will also vanish).

:EDIT: If CMD window gets annoying use the following

Code:
@echo off
start /b taskmgr

Ctrl+Alt+del fix black/ frozen screen? I wonder how it works. I am running on VMware workstation and sometimes the screen freezes or turn into black but game is still going on ( I saw it when I ran a game with follower profile. The screen was frozen but the follower character was still following). Will that method work for VMware workstation too?

I am afraid I was answering the wrong post in the wrong forum when I mentioned a more powerful psu. It concerned the issue known as "coil whining" that is plaguing the new cards of Nvidia. I still have no solution for the screen freeze, except the ctrl-alt-del trick.
