Streaming of buddyshop and manual editing

If I have understand it correcly, now with the implementation of the buddyshop and the usage of streaming. We won't be able to have local editions and therefore we cannot edit it ourselves? I, for one, believe that this aspect of the buddy store is a step backwards instead of forward.

And I was wondering how the majority of the users feels about it. And I am sorry if I didn't understand it correcly and it is possible to edit said products.

Everything we (Bossland GmbH) offer in store will have the source code in the Support thread of the product. 1-90 Questing profile pack already has a link to the svn in the support thread.

For 3rd party products, it is up to the developer to share the source code or not. Although we have plans to encourage sharing

For example:

I have modified kick's hyjal and jade forest questing profiles so that once it arrives in the zone, it automatically buys the ilvl 232 or 372 gear and then continues with the questing profile. Saving me hours and hours of time.

Or the countless of profiles I have downloaded and adjusted the coords myself so I won't be stacked on other botters using those profiles

Or downloaded an old outdated profile with errors and fixed them.

Or many times I have opened up a profile or plugin to see how I could make the bot do that!

I have DSL internet so streaming anything sucks for me. I get the security part of it. But work together and combine your knowledge on protecting your code push your SVNs

Yeah I have had the same problem, 2 keys with 4 sessions, but before I bought them from my friends, I knew such transactions weren't supported by bossland gmbh. So I wasn't sure if I should add it to the poll, perhaps I should have.

Afterwards though, they said I could merge it if the request came from the owner's email, but that is not a possibility for me personally.

You can always have local copies, if u had them before, u can use them now too
the only thing u r missing now ... u won't get updated versions on the old way

for the paid ones ... u should ask the CR developers for getting a gift key so that u can attach them to your Buddy Auth ... don't see an issue with this

Merging 2 seperated Accounts is of course a problem, and a different Story ... but there would be a way around if u ask the original owner if he would be so kind to share his buddyauth portal credentials with you (he shouldn't need them anymore since he sold his keys ) and after that, ask the Devs of your CRs for a gift key (after explaining the situation) ... most of them mind giving u a key, can't speak for every of'em

If a profile is being offered for free to the public, then there's no reason why it shouldn't be editable.

Like Kick's questing profiles. There are so many stucks and bugs, I have manually edited 20+ quests in order to make it run more smoothly. Now with the implementation of the Buddy Store, this is no longer possible.

It also restricts would-be coders from learning how to edit/create their own profiles. I learned by looking at other people's stuff and have been able to create some of my own public profiles to share with the community.

We're going to see a lot less free, user-created content on this site and it's only going to diminish the community. I guarantee it.

U can always contact the Authors/Supportes of free products to apply your changes, resolve bugs

restricting of would-be coders from learning -> there are guides, maybe outdated, but they exists, u can't learn much more from other routines/profiles ... except copy and pasting the whole routine / profile / plugin, rename it and republish it under your name ... u'll say noone will do so ... we had this already, multiple times.

for questions about codingm there is a community dev. forum to ask the questions, and u'll get help there, even for new would-be coders.

and of course there is a reason to not share code from free stuff ... (same discussion in every thread) ... u (or me) as dev will have the problem to support people that are still using outdated code (happens often enough... seen lots of people that where still using Purerotation code from last year while multiple HEAVY bugs where already fixed) and complaining about stuff not working properly.

and "learning" does not mean that u'll need a whole CR as example often it is enough to have snippets of code ... and many devs will share snippets, but for sure not the whole code

We're kind of talking about different things here. I'm talking mostly about profiles, not combat routines. Obviously routines have much more complex code and updates to HB Core that could break things.

There are other ways to learn something without copying/pasting and calling it your own work. Personally, I've been able to make a few profiles by simply looking at the structure of a profile and how it's set up. And then adding my own hotspots, behaviors, vendors, etc. And if I intend to release it as a public profile, to ask the original dev first.

I post in a lot of profile threads, especially Kick's, and while things do get fixed, there are some Cataclysm quests which are still bugged and have been since it was released. I also have posted several threads in the Community Developer forum, and received a total of 1 response. Which was unable to resolve the profile issue I'm having. So, again, although resources are available there are limited responses and people won't always be able to find the answers they need.

I view Kick's profiles as more of a community project at this point. Chinajade and MaxMuster are basically in charge of all the updates now, and there are a lot of users (myself included) who have contributed code to improve the profile. Going forward, we won't be able to post suggested fixes because we won't even have a copy of the profiles to look at.

I understand there are 2 sides to this, but it's going to split the community between developers and users. I'm somewhere in the middle because I know just enough to be dangerous but probably not enough to code my own stuff from scratch. It's people like me that will suffer the most, and eventually the users who won't have access to free public profiles.

Being very inexperienced in profile writing, I personally enjoy looking at the free community profiles to see the structure. Being able to view the profile locally and make edit's has helped me out tremendously when creating my own. Without seeing these profiles I wouldn't have the time to learn how to build profiles from the ground up. I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one here who does the same thing (edit free profiles). I have a feeling that most of the community does this as well. I think not allowing people to view profiles locally is going to have a detrimental effect on the community.

Would it be impossible to consider adding some form of a download link to the free profiles from the store?

Well for me the solution would be to make the free available "projects" downloadable or an option that enables the developer to make a project downloadable on his decision. And I believe that if enough people express their voice, Bossland gmbh will act accordingly.

For example: I love Azyul's profiles, but I heavily edited them and made changes to the coords, entering sequence, adjusted it for a feral class so it was faster, changed total of mobs pulled, removed the lua because I didn't need it, added a hearthstone and deposit function and when it should go to the vendor and where. And this applies to many profiles I downloaded for free. Truth be told, without the free profile I downloaded, I couldn't have done that.

Asking a developer to adjust his project for me, seems a bit weird.

I have learned quicker and faster from downloaded profiles and cc's then from a thread or guide. For people "stealing" code like your example, while I can understand that that makes you feel mad, I am also sure that for every bad seed, there are 10 or more good ones .

If I have to ask a question for every simple problem I have had, I would have had wasted a lot of time waiting and a lot of wasting somebody's time, while the solution already was available in one of the profiles I downloaded and could be found with a simple file search

Sounds like an user error and people should post their logs anyhow. So a quick open should reveal the version number and you can shrug it off

I remember reading a few years back svn support for singular won't be supported and if you look at kick's 1-90 mega profile pack, it doesn't say anything about svn anymore, so I'll go ahead and assume support for svn won't be supported at one point.

I've done these 1 person edits before for a few people and I came to the conclusion that it's better to hear from you guys about what needs to change so that when things do change in the plugin or more features/functions are made available then 100s or even 1000s of people will benefit and not just a few people, I've also recently read a piece from one of the developers that he welcomes new ideas and was willing to listen and even implement some of them if he saw that it would be of a benefit to his clients.
