Upcoming Hotfix - Shard of Hate (4/15) - Forums - Diablo III

As with other recent hotfixes, we’ve got one coming up shortly that we wanted to give the community a heads up about, this time regarding the legendary Shard of Hate. We’ve been closely observing our internal reports as well as player feedback on the Shard of Hate and the general consensus is that this item feels wildly out of line compared to other items. After digging in behind the scenes, we discovered a couple of bugs with this item that we believe is the ultimate culprit.

First, the internal cooldown of this item’s power was being reset each time a dual-wielding character attacked with a weapon in their other hand. This meant the effect was occurring twice as often for dual-wielding characters, and with particular skills such as Whirlwind or Tempest Rush that also carry attack speed multipliers, this effect was even more frequent.

Secondly, the proc rate of the item was ignoring the proc scalar of the skill it was used with, which in simple terms caused Shard of Hate’s affix to apply every time a skill was used. Combined with the above issue, this resulted in this Legendary vastly over performing, and even more so with particular builds.

The hotfixes we’re applying correct both of these unintended behaviors and have been added to our 2.0.4 Hotfixes thread. As with all major changes, we hope to provide insight as to why we felt these changes were necessary as well as give context to the decisions we ultimately make.

Really hate it when there is somthing good that they always have to nerf it.
Makes me wanne play the game less.

agreed, tearing things up with that actually made the game fun for awhile. oh well =\

Minor nerf stop fucking crying

If this was a minor nerf, why the hell would they feel it would be appropriate to warn the community prior to it coming out? In their explanation, it looks as though SoH was doing nearly triple the amount of damage than was intended for dual wielders. Lol, right, 'minor'.

well we have to test it after the hotfix :) but i really do hope the nerf isnt going to destroy the build.
my honest opinion is ether you play a extremly boring hota fire specc or go crazy ww barb with a nice soh which allows you to have fun? can you imagine that?
i have had the first time fun since nearly 2 years in diablo with that soh :) btw i consider barbarian as the weakest off all classes. becouse he needs stupid good weapons to make something at all :/ i played a couple of hundred hours of ros and i have to say when i give all my other classes crap they still outperform my barb except when i use my SOH or a full boring fire hota crap (and yes i got good gear i kill ghom in ~15 sec with fire and light spec).

My barb doesn't have SoH or TF, and I can burn through T3 with ease.
SoH is getting a nerf because it procs on mainhand and offhand swings, with no cooldown, on every single piece of lightning/cold/poison damage, making it much stronger than it should be.

If you play a class that "needs" a specific weapon you just aren't playing it right.

what kind of build are you using? and i can melt t3 without soh aswell. i like to play TV or T VI couse thats the endgame. ALL i said is that i hope i wont have to change too all these other incredible boring specs. i want to have fun :) i know it gets "fixed" not "nerfed".

For those who like me were botting Ghom T6 (Kevin's profile) using Shard and killing him in around 10 seconds, here's my 20 second kill build I used before I dropped my SoH:

Barbarian - Game Guide - Diablo III

No fury spender and 25% dmg when you're full fury passive (goes to pets as well)

That's the build I got faster kills with, I've tried HOTA Smash and a lot of different stuff, but feel free to test and post your results here for us!

I have +105% fire dmg and +70% elite dmg, stack those as well. Hope you guys can still get a lot of xp gold and legendaries.

As much as I hate to quote trolls, you should probably look into the value of a TF/SoH barb/monk. I've had an account sell solely because the char had those 2 weapons.

Because for ONE single build (WW lightning barb) it is a major nerf.

For any WD/Wiz/Crusader build it's exactly the same as it was before. For monks it's a noticeable nerf but nothing major.
