a question to some of the "nerds" :p

Hello everyone.

I had a thought there have been nagging me for some time now, blizzard claims they can "detect" bots by scanning our ram useage, so here is my question, how can they see its a bot running on the rams, and not just a music program like winamp or whatever.

because in my head if they scan the ram useage, they can prolly see multible things using ram, so how they can know its a bot.

so if someone can give me spelled out explination on this matter, if would be awesome, just bare in mind that im not a programmer, so dont use very technical launguage !

Anything that anyone sais is only speculations. No body on this forum can tell exactly what blizzard knows and what not. But out of personal experience when it comes to anti-hacks and games. I used to run a Ultima Online private shard for more then 10 years and believe me we knew exactly what everyone used, all the time.

Back in the ultima online days the most common bot tool was Easy UO, its bascially the same as honorbuddy for wow.

Worldwide people claimed this was undetectable by EA, All priv servers etc.

It was not.


This is just as much speculation as everything else stated on the matter but I do believe blizzard knows the minute you hit start that you are using just that there are to much money for them to lose if they just "Lets ban all botters" and therefor, your safe untill the day you get X reports on your account.


Edit; Beyond that, I do belive they do waves from time to time and just ban people thats been doing this or that for to long. "Today lets ban 50 accounts"

Blizzard can scan within their own memory usage, but can't scan outside of that.

So if you've got World of Warcraft, and PrawnHub* open, Blizzard (and Warden) can only look at the memory space utilized by the World of Warcraft application. They can't see what else you're doing on the computer.

yes i know they cant see what im doing, but my point is, HB is a seperatly runned program, how can they even have an HUNCH about its a bot, i mean, it can just be a music program

Back to Topic: It's not like they can't, but they're not allowed to. (They stated in their ToS that they reserve the right to, but that's bullshit)*

A "Music Program" wouldn't access the Space in memory reserverd for WoW. No access, no overlay, nothing.
Afaik HB itself doesn't interact with the WoW Memory either, it reads, but it doesn't write into it. So Blizz shouldn't be able to see it.
(there are Plugins/CR's that DO access and write into the memory I guess)

Or maybe it can be something as simple as this player hit <TAB> 100 times in the last second (as in is attempting to target nearest enemy etc). So based on a Rogue (one of the claimed most easily banned classes for pickpocketing) attempting to double or triple pickpocket all mobs in very short time frames could be a lead. BUT ... all that happens if you get sloppy and they have a reason to look at you. Don't be sloppy avoid running something for 8 hours straight with lil to no breaks, etc.

Be smart to avoid them wanting to look at you and well they probably wont.
