Just got the dreaded error 52 notice on both accounts. Just as a long shot: would attaching a new game key to either account allow me to access them even for a short time so I can move stuff out?

Sorry just to clarify: removes the ban as in I can log in with my old acct or removes the old acct details and can only log in if I make a new one?

your old account information gets wiped out when you put in a new license key

you old Diablo 3 account info , ( game key, Characters etc) are removed wiped and started fresh ,
adding new game keys will now allow you to access you stuff to move them around at all.

You cannot access your old banned account no matter what. Only way is to get unbanned...
