If I was to do this I would do it NOT in the tech section of the store and I would do it to like an old lady, someone who really would have no business knowing how the keys work. I really don't think it would work with game time cards because they can clearly see the card scratched off. And they have some weird activation of the cards..

Meh even if they did have a tech person there's nothing they can really do if you say the CD is already in use. They have to take you word for it and exchange them out for you. But if you abuse this then they will most likely end up finding ways to stop it.

heres the thing, you better hope they dont restock the item, because if someone else gets a hold of it, they have your cd-key, and can then talk to blizzard support and find out who took it, and do bad things to your account, and on top of that its fraud. if i could lock the thread i would, but i cant.

This is old.. Way old.. For one it is considered retail Fraud and you will wind up catching a charge for it. Second the game gets returned to blizzard and they will ban the cd keys. You may get away with it for a while, but rest assured one day your going to log in and your account will be banned.

What you do is you go in and buy a battlechest, after you have done that you can go to another Wal-Mart and get WOTLK expansion. Once you do that go home and install the game to a account and use the CD keys. After you do all that. Take them back and say "I keep getting a error with the CD key and blah blah blah" Tell them you don't want your money back you only want to exchange them for another "working" copy. And every time I've done this they always give me another copy no questions asked. And now you have two accounts for the price of one.


I'm also amusing that you can do this with game time cards. But I don't know since I haven't tried it.

If they say it dont work, It'll simply go to claims, and get sent back to wherever it came from. Now when blizz gets ahold of it, im not sure if they recirculate the key, or not, noone knows I guess. But walmart themselves wouldn't restock that box.

I only did this two years ago because I wanted to have a spare account if I ever got banned again. Didnt really look at this a fraud since the likleyhood of ever getting caught and charged is slim to none since they really cant prove anything. And really... It's wal-mart... Need I say more?

while it is possible that the cd key would be sent back to blizz, there is a 100% chance the item is never ever returned to the manufacturer unless it is of super-high value or covered by warranty.

chains like walmart dont have the time to waste on the logistics of sending crap back... not to mention who is going to pay freight on stuff like that?

It goes to claims, claims marks it as defective, specifies what is defective, the claims slip is then faxed to a number, and the item is thrown into the trash compactor.

the cost of shipping the software solo back to blizz hq would be worth more then the profit on the item itself...

It is fraud no matter how you look at it. which in the us, usually results in a federal crime (more now then before due to the economy). Will you get busted for it, its like mp3/movie downloads. the chances are you getting busted for it are VERY VERY slim. But if by the office chance you do.. you can pretty much kiss your future goodbye as for a clean record and such.

As for sending it back to blizzard... the software these stores are not bought directly from blizzard.. they are bought thru various channels... and unless there is alot of them at once (from personal work experience in the past) they 99.9% just write it off and throw it away. It costs more money/time to send back get new then it does to just write it off under loss prevention.

Alot of stores are requiring personal information when you do returns like that. So just be careful if you attempt it.

I'm not condoning it as I personally do see it as illegal but then again those of you that say he's scum and dirtbag for doing something illegal and against the 'rules'.. what exactly are you doing when you bot in the game?? Just something to chew on LOL

Anyways.. nuff of my 2.9cents.. good luck in trying this, it might/might not work. But then again, the same goes for botting..
