So I bought a botting rig. A heads up.

I decided to buy a botting rig. I followed the baseline of blista08's spec : http://www.thebuddyforum.com/demonbuddy-forum/98805-d3-computer-builds-botting.html

CPU : AMD FX-6300
RAM : Mushkin Enhanced Silverline 16GB PC3-10600 1333MHz DDR3
GPU : an old ASUS 5770 1 GB CU Core
Mobo : Gigabyte GA-970A-D3
HDD : Toshiba 500 GB SATA 3
random PSU 500 W
good ventilated Box
bits n pieces
For a grand total of 450 ?.

With grief I found out that this CPU can push MAX 7 bots(10 stated from blista08). Don't know if DB and D3 are more CPU demanding from the time blista08 wrote his topic, but it is a fact. Low D3prefs, minimal Windows 7 settings, no pagefile. Of course I run only D3 and DB, no Antivirus or shit.

CPU % works hard around 80-100% (not overclocked)
GPU easily rests at about 35%
Total Used RAM 11 GB (enough room for 3 more bots)

Maybe I'm doing something wrong. Any help would be grateful.

Ya those old models blow.

You could've gone for a FX-8320 for $40 more and gotten 150% of the performance at least.

turn your TPS down a little on each bot will help some if you haven't already.

i'm running 6 bots currently on 2 560 2gb / 1 990x and I get 9-10% cpu usage and 6%-13% usage on the cards but both stay under 38c.
I have low d3pref settings/fps at 15 max and a few plugins to help usage...

to be honest... 7 is still a lot of bots and you're not happy with that?

I have some bad DIMMs on my mobo so I am only showing 8gig ddr3 and it's still plenty though i'd like to run more.

have you oc'd any and what are your temps/cooling?

also is your colordepth on 16 or 32?

Well, I would be happy if blista08 was right :)) (meaning 10 bots on this cheap piece of hardware).

colordepth on D3prefs? 8

For the time being no OC... temps are high as expected, and no way I'm gonna invest in better cooling.

I've been down the same road you are traveling.

In my experience all the guys saying "i5's can run 12-14 clients" and "my i7 3770k pushes 30 ez" or "my amx 6300 has np with 10 clients" are either running their bots with TPS set at 2 running a simple gold profile, or they are just lying.

I participated in a lot of discussions awhile back about hardware and what certain 1's can or can't do. If you plan to run quality bots that run in depth profiles, then you are better off overbuying when it comes to cpu. I have 0 problems with anything else on any comp in my farm other than running out of cpu power.

My brother runs 10 on an amd 83xx. Ive ran 6-8 on i5 3570k oc'd, and 12 per i7 3770k oc'd. everything cut down including d3prefs but i keep my fps at 15+ and tps to 8-10 and they have always produced extremely well.

I have mine set to 16, didn't know it could do 8.... will look into that.

Do you use Party Plugin ? (multiple bots in the same game) I noticed it uses a little more CPU than every bot playing for himself.

An I7 can run 10 easy with D3pref only tweaked.
You can push to 12 but i get lags due to cpu spikes... the probles is that you get spikes and the more bots the bigger they are.
My spikes are from 48-80 % which damn allot. As i said you can put 2 more bots but i am leveling hc batch so i cant risk...
This is with no clock on my cpu.
Well i do hope clocking is as good as ppl say if i need to add more bots

No I don't use this plugin anymore. I noticed too that this plugin uses a bit more of cpu power. I am currently running mp10 barbs on Act2 oasis.

which i7 are you currently running? that's a pretty broad range, I wouldn't think a 920 could compared to something like a 980x or a what? 3770k etc..

How much ram do you have? what gpu?

Overclock it hard.. you might be able to squeeze one more instance, but somewhere around 8 games will be the maximum you will get, that is if CPU is your current bottleneck. DB/plugins are, in fact, more demanding then before.. and that isn't all. When blista wrote that hardware guide, everyone used to solo bot mp1 to 3 or 4 at best. Now, people use party botting and barbs at mp10, which in itself takes up more resources. Think about that: 4 characters meet an elite pack (at mp7 for example) and elites start to cast shit, your characters cast shit and avoid shit all at the same time- BANG- a CPU spike. Same goes for mp10 farming- while the mobs die pretty fast at low MP, at high MP they stay around for quite a long time; this means more things for the game to display and calculate, more things you do damage to, more death animations at the same time and so long. I own a FX-8350 and I used to run 10 regularly at lower MP (solo farming). I've even run 12 for a test and it was performing well. Now that i use a 4 bot party and 4 solo barbs for mp10, i can't even run a 9th bot any more. So here you have it, more demanding farming style equals less instances.
