LEt me know if there is a profile to make gems, because I have a ton I would like to sell

i dont think its worth the time invested.

the amount of time spent making gems does not equal the amount of gold that could be made farming gear in that time.

I trans the gems to my main and use that cnet link to craft em up. Worth it on all gems but topaz atm, those i AH.

It takes like 20-30 min when I have 2000 gems and 2-3k tomes to get to prefect stars, then I AH them for 20k gold less then the market price (days trades, not last ten). They always sell within 20 mins. makes 8-10 million while im muling, might as well do it.

You actually make a lot less after the value of the gems and tomes are factored in.

Not really. It's usually profitable, at least on emeralds, amethysts, and sometimes rubies, so long as they're being cut on a mule and it's not preventing farming time. Just make a spreadsheet that shows you if it's profitable or not. It's not hard to figure out. Takes 10-15 minutes to make a crude one that will show you whether it's profitable for each cut. Just make sure when you make one that the cost of the cut as well as the values of the precut gem and the tomes are included. The biggest question is if the profit is worth the time to cut them. That depends on the person. Some people cut them all the way up to radiant stars as a way to sell more items on the RMAH. Some people just cut them up to perfect or radiant squares because that's what the spreadsheet shows is the most profitable.

Waste of time.

Even if it was profitable, you're wasting an account that could be making 1M/hr (gold + items value) by using it to make gems at 50k/hr.

^ this, you waste 30-35min creating a radiant star, for a small profit @ 1m, you might be doing it on a mule, but it's not worth the time - its faster and far easier to put gems and tomes on AH and they sell faster than the radiant star aswell. You might actually sell all the mats within the 35min window it took to create a radiant star, just saying....
But hey if thats what you want to do, then go for it.

Diablo 3 Gem Crafting Price Calculator Tool

Should help anyone interested. You can also see how much GPH etc. Some people here may change their minds LMAO

That's a neat little tool, I am going to bookmark that page. I don't think it will really change anyone's mind though if they sit down and do the math. Let's look at current prices assuming Emerald's since they sell for the most:

1 Radiant star = 65 tomes, 729 Flawless squares
At current US AH rates of 1049 per tome and 8666 per flawless square that's 23,428,433 in crafting costs, and you would have to sell at 27,562,863 to break even.
Current cost of Radiant Stars = 28,499,996
Profit per gem = 937,133
Gems per hour = 3
GPH = 3*937,133 = 2,808,592

Since bots can make conservatively 1,000,000 per hour gems are 1,808,592 ahead, but bots can't craft gems. So that leaves you with two choices:

1)Let bots run automatically and earn $.18 cents per hour per bot at $.25 per million

2)Manually play the character doing nothing but clicking the craft gem button earning $.51 cents per hour at $.25

Difference of ~$.33 cents per hour playing manually.......
Of course that goes out the window if a profile can be made to make gems, but once bots enter the gem making market expect profits to drop dramatically.

i will laugh if you get banned for mouse clicker on your mule (doubt it could happen tho) but still i reserve the right to LOL

It's way more than 65 tomes. To go from FS to Radiant is 1631 tomes, usually the bulk of the cost in mats. You can make a script to do this easily in a macro program and even then it's not really worth the hassle.
