Hi, I was wondering how do you guys know what item to keep, what item to sell to the merchant, and what item to auction?

Is there a list of what items are worth and what items we should keep? I know there must be like a hundred thousand items alone and I don't know where to start.

Raw materials like ore, gems, leather, cloth, meat, eggs and silk you should retain and auction them or use them at a later date if you plan to level some professions.
Green items mostly can be vendered with the exception of items like * of the champion (* denotes a random word). The reason you auction things like this is because they have a good mix of stats for people leveling and buying upgrades.
Blue items are best to sell on the AH although some never sell, best thing to do is post them on the AH 2 maybe 3 times and if they still do not sell just vender them.
Epic items, either equip or sell on the AH.

Auctioneer / auctionactor add on are a good place to start, dont trust the prices they suggest until youve run sevral scans over a period of a few weeks

Its pretty easy to get bogged down in which gear items sells and what not, and for me the eastiest option is to just have and Alt with Disenchanting (enchanting) and i dis pretty much everything, yep i loose out on stuff with greater A/H value but i cant be bothered min maxing my time / profit ratio, i use HB to take the grind out of stuff and to make sure i always have more than enough gold for items i want to buy

wpuk is correct, Auctioneer and Auctionator will help you build a healthy list of prices rates for items but as he already stated it will take a couple of weeks for it to be accurate.

I used to use auctioneer but since Blizzard upgraded the default auction listing page I have stopped. I now prefer just to do a quick scan at that point in time and list regardless of price fluctuation, this has enabled me to keep on top of selling everything I gather.
