Can i run HB2 on a virtual machine on windows 2008 R2 (with VMware) or on a hyper-V Windows 2008 Datacenter (for unlimited virtual machines) ?

Since windows8 isn't supported by HB until RTM, I had to research this to be able to keep using HB. WOW will not run on Virtual PC, or Hyper-V.. But it does work perfectly under VMWARE....

My current connection is limited to 1Mbps upload so I'm having a hard time remote-connecting and no higher upload speed is provided in my area. I'm thinking about co-locating a leased 1u server or renting a dedicated machine so i can remote-connect faster from anywhere.
Is is efficent with VMware? Anyone using/tried that?

wow not run with servers^^

wont work on vmware either on a dedicated server. If you do run vmware server (not esx) it is possible to enable "3d support" however vmware server was deprecated over a year ago.

Well, thats bad news. I wasn't expecting that for hyperV but I thought i could at least work it with win7 on VMware on a dedicated server. :(
Hows the performance with vmware server?

vmware server works just fine. However then you need to rent a root server. install windows/linux in the bottom then vmware server ontop of it. I would really recommend windows in the bottom (graphics drivers etc...)

Also how much are you willing to chip in? Root servers are typically 40-60? a month, root server i rent now for www.j-mon.com is 60? a month with these specs: 32Gb ram, Quad Core i7 2600, 2x3Tb hdd raid1 (can also be rented with ssd), 100/100Mbit. Root servers gives you direct access to the hardware.

If properly planned you can get Wow running on ESXI 5. You can either enable 3D support under display (which is very very cpu intensive - chances are your bot won't do much) or go through the process of passing through a video card. I've got a Windows 7 VM with an assigned video card installed in the server running wow right now. I warn you though it takes a lot of time and testing to find the right video card, find a motherboard that allows passing it through, and then get the drivers running.

I couldn't get VMware Server to do it running on a windows box because WoW couldn't detect a directx3d capable device. I think it's VMware workstation that works but again it needs a graphics card on the host machine. I don't know what the limitations there are because I've never tried it.

I'm already paying 30$/month for a shit VPS which I'm hosting 11 domains with extremely low traffic. I think I can also migrate those websites to this root server so 40-60?/month is a good price.

j0achim, is that an EX-4S from hetzner? their monthly fees are great however setup fees are a bit high. I need to be sure that's gonna work before cashing 210?.
Do you think i can run 24 WoW/HB on that machine?
btw congratz for j-mon, thats really a very good plug-in/website. Hope you implement 2-way chat soon. And please, pretty please notifio/prowl :)

It's an EX-4S from Hetzner. Yea their setup fee is freekin steep, however the server is awesome.

I'm not going to guess how many they will run because i have not tried running any 3d applications on my server. But considering i have nearly same hardware on my home pc: 16Gb ram, i7 2600K, though i have SSD + Radeon 7970 i assume it should be possible to run many bots at once. The processor should have a decent GPU (Intel HD 3000) so it should manage some 3d. (this is the i7 2600 I'm talking about)

In server there is a i7 2600 and 32Gb ram.
