What measures should I take against getting banned?

Anyone with a long time without getting banned has some tips?

Right now I'm running an A3 script for around 12 hours a day with a few breaks. Try to talk in chat sometimes, and once in a while play a little myself.

Pretty much just make sure your friends know that you share your account with family members so that can explain why you're almost always on if you have friends you made in-game. I know many people IRL who don't bot but I see online all day in a game simply because they leave their characters afk on all the time. It happens.

Also, make sure you have the option of "Allow friends to join your private games" or some such thing that is in your options. I forget where it is, but it will prevent them from joining in game where you're asleep and your bot is running.

Also, make use of the "Away" or "Busy" options in your friend's list. Busy will reduce whispters, automatically not allow them to invite you to parties, etc etc.

Other than that I don't know what else could minimize risk? You used to be able to hide yourself from Bnet a year or so ago by firewalling off the Bnet port, but they made it so you cannot even connect now unless Bnet can talk to the internet which is gay :(

I know reading is hard, but I want to know what minimizes my risks.

i think you cant really minimize the risk.
if blizzard is able to detect DB, you will get banned.

ok the points Mojoguy01 wrote are true, but do you have random players on your list?
i only have rL mates on my list, all know that i bot and they dont care about and/or they bot too.
just remove all "friends" you dont know irL and you dont trust at all...

It's really hard to say. There are a lot of rumors and educated guesses running around but nothing solid. Here are the steps I take to hopefully minimize risk:

  • Launch D3 directly instead of from Bnet app. Create a shortcut of the .exe and add -launch to the end to achieve this.
  • Launch DB AFTER you are logged into the game.
  • Don't bot too long. Give yourself time to "sleep". I realize lots of people afk 24 hours a day but shouldn't give them a reason to be suspicious.
  • Actually play the game from time to time and farm the same areas as your bot.
  • As mentioned above minimize people reporting you by only having people you trust on your Flist and being afk.
  • Change up the routine your bot runs as often as you are comfortable.
  • Don't run routines that do too many games an hour. I'd say keep it under 20, but even less is better. The longer profiles are probably better.
  • Auto Identify legendaries. I know its fun to wake up to "presents" to open but normal humans dont do that. They want to see if it is an upgrade ASAP.
  • Avoid profiles that get "stuck" a lot. That kind of behavior makes bots much more obvious.
  • On that note run "simple" combat builds that don't confuse the bot. If it gets to complicated the bot will sometimes "spaz out" and be obvious.

Obviously those things are all conjecture. No one really knows HOW we are caught. Warden catching DB, Blizzard studying analytics and then manual observing players, other players reporting you... Its all a mystery. Here are some things other players say they do, but I don't do myself:

  • Bot on a virtual machine.
  • If you are running more than 1 bot run each through separate p r o x y Servers to mask your singular IP address. (Why that word keeps getting censured I have no idea)
  • Open two copies of D3 so Warden only "hooks" into the first. Run the Bot on the second instance you launch.
  • Use YAR to randomly log in an out, change up routines, etc. I want to do this, but the one time I tried to set it up it gave me a headache.

As many people will say "Dont Bot!" if you are concerned about being caught. Thats generally the doucher response for asking this question. But if you are posting on this forum then you are going to bot. None of us want to be caught and personally I think sharing information about how we each minimize the risk and theorycrafting how we would try to catch a botter is a good thing for us all.

Yea, the "don't bot" responses are always from assholes or douchbags who make you question why they're even on a forum FOR BOTTING to begin with.

this, regardless what you do, get detected your banned. simple

dont wanna be banned, dont bot.

you could do 101 different things to "minimize" bans, well if that makes you feel more safe and secure then do it i guess, only thing i would say is, if your gunna bot then bot like a human. Take rests/offline/pauses and change up what your farming/running.

I have renamed the DB .exe and it's containing folder to something else. Don't know if that makes any difference or not.

How would running the game through the Bnet app possibly have any impact on whether or not you are detected or banned? Specifically, what does the Bnet app do to increase detection, flag your account, etc?

Don't bot is the best answer. If you want to bot, don't value the account you are botting on. If you do want to bot, bot 24/7 imo. No point half assing it. They don't ever seem to ban by playtime in D3. My opinion is bans happen through detection so if you run a bad DB during a window of detection you are busted, wether it be for 5 minutes or 5 months.

Summary: Don't bot at all, or bot all in. Anything in between is foolish.

So no one has been banned for high playtime? Or almost 24/7 bot? I find that hard to believe..

Some of the people here have multiple accounts running 24/7 with 0 bans. Others were botting for an hour once upon a time a year ago and suddenly got banned.
If you use third party software in violation of the EULA, you will be banned if the use is detected. The only way to minimize the risk of being banned is to not violate the EULA. That means no botting and no TurboHUD. I don't believe changing the name of the exe or folder, or running the game without the b.net client will have any effect what-so-ever. But then again, I also don't believe that certain legendaries drop in certain areas or other conspiracy theories.

The only thing you can do is to avoid being reported. That way your account is less likely to be spotted or investigated. Friends and clanmembers may choose to report you if they find you playing but not responding etc.

Nobody has any way to confirm or deny that, so believe what you want. Personally I think botting 12 hours a day is foolish after I've ran 12 bots on one pc for 5 months straight before a ban wave hit EVERYONE.

Only advice I have for you is turn off the option that let's your friends hop in your game. I have over 7200 hours botted and much of that was weeks of consecutive 24/7 botting, I have never once been banned. I got my brother into D3 last year and he botted for a few months, he only got banned after making friends on the game and then coming home to see one of them in his game saying "reported" , he was banned the next day.

Also dont join any public games because the players you played with will remain on your recently played list and because I'm a bit paranoid I always think if they see me always online they'll report me for "botting"

Don't forget your tinfoil hat and you should be safe! ;)
