Rhen'Ho Flayer - Confuse Build
A Great Crowd Control build for your Torment Progression
If you currently are running Ghom at higher torments, and wonder why you are dying a ton in rifts or bounties, this build is for you!
Why Crowd Control?! I have 3mil elemental elite DPS, newb! I am top 500 DPS in world! blah blah blah.
You are using a bot. All bots have limitations due to the rules and settings they must abide by. As a result, our bots tend to perform one function better than all else: DPSing! Anytime your bot has to deviate from it's path or kite, it affects your clear time. Higher torments with better clear time = Legendaries/Gold/EXP per hour.
Are there better DPS builds? Yes. A full Jade set or swapping to a Starmetal Kukri with a similar build.
Are there better Tank builds? Probably, but it's pointless to tank when you can CC and DPS with this build.
If you have the best gear in the world is this not needed? Possibly.
Is this build extremely easy to gear for and bot with? Hell yes.
Must have Items:
Rhen'ho Flayer
Uhkapian Serpent
Must have Skills:
Plague of toads: Addling Toads
Summon Zombie Dogs: Life Link or Leeching Beasts depending on what works best for you.
Piranhas: Piranhado
Gargantuan: Wrathful Protector

- Maximized Crowd Control
- Low setup time. Works very well with default trinity settings.
- Relatively loose gearing requirements (2 items are a must, others can be optional)
- No Mana issues
- Well geared players will benefit from their Best in Slot items, Phys% and Poison%
- Fire WDs or Max Gargantuan Docs will still be able to utilize their gear.

Must have Items:
Rhen'ho Flayer
- Allows Plague Of Toads to target instead of randomly jump around screen.
- Targeting starts on the first leap off of the ground. Can target destructibles and across screen!
Uhkapian Serpent
- 25–30% of the damage you take is redirected to your Zombie Dogs. High DPS offhand.
- If you have a Tall Man's Finger you will gain MITIGATION and DPS from your zombie dogs.
Must have Skills:
Plague of toads: Addling Toads
- Mutate to yellow toads that deal 190% weapon damage as Poison and have a 15% chance to Confuse affected enemies for 4 seconds.
- Allows you to stay within melee range. Important for Grave Injustice since you cannot use a Thing of the Deep.
- 66.7 Proc rate See All Proc Rates HERE
Summon Zombie Dogs: Life Link or Leeching Beasts depending on what works best for you.
- Your Zombie Dogs absorb 10% of all damage done to you.
- Your Zombie Dogs heal you for 100% of your Life On Hit with every attack.
- Tall Man's Finger: Elemental Damage is affected by your rune type. Burning Dogs for %Fire, Rabid for %Poison
Piranhas: Piranhado
- Trash and Blue mob crowd control + 15% damage to anything it hits for 4 seconds.
- Relatively short cooldown with Grave Injustice
Gargantuan: Wrathful Protector
- Elite smasher. Amazing if you have %Fire or %Garg gear along with Midnight Feast passive.
Big Bad Voodoo: Slam Dance- 30% Added DPS and 20% attack speed.
- Really? I need to say more?!
Pierce the Veil Free DPS
Fetish Sycophants more Free DPS. Toads proc these quite often.
Grave Injustice Keeps your skills off cooldown
Optional Skills:
Fetish Army: Legion of Daggers Required if slow attack speed [if sycophant not proc enough]. Good if you have %Fetish gear already.
Midnight Feast: Best for gargantuan builds. Also adds a Zombie Dog which..
Fierce Loyalty: Good if you want an extra dog and 30% movement out of combat is nice if you find your bot backtracking often
Zombie Handler: Increases YOUR HEALTH along with gargantuan and zombie dogs by 20%
Spirit Vessel: If you occasionally get one shot or bot allows you to die in certain situations. As you raise torment level, this will be more and more likely.
Bad Medicine or Jungle Fortitude: Use them if you're dying
Stacking % Damage- BEST Physical Damage buffs your Fetish Army, Sycophants and Zombie Dogs
- BETTER Fire damage and %Garg work well if you choose to use a Gargantuan.
- GOOD Poison Damage buffs your Plague of Toads and Piranhas Damage. Good with Carevil helm.
- BETTER %Gargantuan Damage is great if you need to kill elites faster.
- BETTER %Summon Zombie Dogs damage works great with Tall Man's Finger
- GOOD Fetish Army % only buffs your Fetish Army, Not Sycophants
- Zombie dogs are affected by the damage type of your rune. Keep in mind for Tall Man's Finger builds.
General Guidelines:
TL : DR this for experienced users... Otherwise....
Gearing is about balance. If you're trying to get a GG character that can play high torment you must realize there are sacrifices you have to make. It's not just about stacking the best looking stats on all slots.
Death = Loss of DPS. Worse for botters, it's a MASSIVE dropoff in all our favorite 'per hour' statistics.
Following simple rules like the 1/10 ratio for CC / CHD:
If you have 50 CC, optimal CHD would be 500
If you have 40 CC and 550CHD, drop some CHD for CC
If you have 60CC and 400CHD, I would suggest dropping some CC for CHD where you can.
Click on any of these "TOP CHD" WDs and see how unbalanced their stats are, thus low DPS.
Critical Damage, Americas :: DiabloProgress - Diablo 3 Rankings
For those of you just coming over from D3Vanilla, this is going to be an odd transition. You will literally WANT to run rings with 50 CHD and no CC at times because CHD is a precious stat for us as we can't dual wield weapons with emeralds in them. Also you're looking to stack anywhere from 8000-9000+ INT so it's more important than IAS at times... It's also worth noting that TRIFECTA rings have their shortcomings are often are not BiS.
Again, Goal: stack minimum required toughness to result in 0 deaths during your run at your preferred torment, so that you can focus on evenly distributing your stats over your items.
Best In Slot Items
When you gear up, this build really starts to shine...
Rings and Jewelry:
Remember to keep balance in mind when re-rolling your jewelry. I run max CHD on all of my jewelry IAS and other stats. Helps keep my 50cc/500chd ratio. Your mileage may vary depending on conditions.
Jewelry can have very mercurial rolls, but BiS rings add so much more than just sheet DPS so it's worth a small sacrifice sometimes...
Tall Man's Finger- Crits almost as good as gargantuan (I see 70-100+ mil crits vs. elites)
- Stack up to 45% Summon Zombie Dog damage [shoulders, chest, mojo]
- Affected by %Elemental Damage that matches to the type of dogs you summon-Physical WDs gain the best benefit using Life Link for 10% mitigation + DPS.-Fire WDs can use Burning Dogs, Poison WDs use Rabid Dogs for DPS only
- Additional dogs and damage from passives buff dogs [Midnight Feast, Zombie Handler, Fierce Loyalty]
- Dog has massive life pool, will always be off cooldown by time it dies.
- You are using a Uhkapian Serpent and dogs for utility anyways, now they can DPS too!
Unity- Requires that your follower is wearing: UNITY and Legendary Follower item so they don't die
- Follower takes 50% of all damage dealt to you
- Can roll up to 15% damage vs. Elites
Stone Of Jordan- Still Best in Slot on Ghom and similar runs due to Elemental + Elite damage
- Unity is vastly better in higher torment due to mitigation. If mitigation isn't needed SoJ is BiS.
Royal Ring of Grandeur- If you're trying to stack several set bonuses, it can be BiS
- Don't feel obligated to use it just because you have it. Try using other rings to find what works best
Helm, Gloves, Bracers, Belt(s)
These slots have some items widely viewed as Best In Slot... But for the less fortunate, there are alternatives...
Mask of Jarem (Not the green one that's part of Helltooth Set)
- Gives up to 100% more dps on all pets
- Hands down the best WD helm in the game due to all of the GG pet options.
Alternates until you get a MoJ:Andariel's Visage For stacking maximum DPS [Elemental, IAS, CC]
Carnevil For Poison Dart users.
Quetzalcoatl For DoT users out there.
Tasker and Theo- Increase pet attack speed up to 50%
- Hands down the best gloves in the game due to all of the GG pet options.
- This effect doesn't work with Carneval [they fire only when your character does]
Alternates until you get T&T:Magefist Benefits Fire WDs and your Gargantuan: Wrathful Protector
Frostburn Gauntlets For Cold WDs
Set gloves of choice Lots of free DPS and mitigation options, including craftables
Strongarm Bracers or Aughild's Demands
- Both bracers can roll Elemental Damage / INT / VIT / 6% CC
- Strongarms roll "Enemies hit by knockbacks suffer 20–30% more damage for 5 seconds"
- Works with Piranhado! Knockbacks don't proc on guardians, etc. Great for trash kills.
- Aughild's are needed to get the 3 piece set bonus when you don't use an RROG.
- 15% Damage and 15% Reduction vs. Elites Use if your elite kill times are slow.
Harrington Waistguard or Witching Hour can be Best in Slot. It's up to you.- Witching Hour can roll 7%IAS and 50% CHD. Highest static DPS belt in the game. Low mitigation.
- Harringtons can roll up to 135% additional DPS for 10 seconds after opening any container. All chests, Vessels, loose stones, containers, racks and bodies on ground proc this effect! If you're going to use it, tell DB to open EVERYTHING. If you don't like DB opening everything, use the WH instead!
Alternates until you get HWG or WH:Hellcat Waistguard Rolls 5-6% IAS making it a high dps, low mitigation belt.
Cord of the Sherma Chance on hit to Blind/Slow enemies up to 4 seconds
Hwoj Wrap up to 80% slow on enemies affected by Locust Swarm
Fleeting Strap Craftable, rolls up to 7% IAS for high DPS, low mitigation.
Set belt of choice
Set Bonuses
Shoulders, Chest, Bracers, Belt, Pants and Boots are all slots that you can mix and match as needed.
*Worth noting that Aughild Bracer's and Shoulders are widely viewed as BiS
**While a Harrington or Witching Hour belt can be GG, if you're playing Ghom only consider that 10% vs. elites gained on a 2-piece Blackthorne's bonus may be better if you require the belt slot to get it.
Blackthorne's Amulet, Chest, Belt, Pants, BootsPants and Boots are most commonly used. Belt can be worked in.
2p Set: +250 Vitality Increases damage against elites by 10%
3p Set: Reduces damage from elites by 10.0%, +25% Extra Gold from Monsters
4p Set: You are immune to Desecrator, Molten, and Plagued monster ground effects.
Zunimassa's Helm, Chest, Ring, Mojo, Boots2p Set: +250 Intelligence, Grants 30 Mana per Kill

6p Set: Soul Harvest consumes your damage over time effects on enemies, instantly dealing their remaining damage.
Craftable Set Bonuses
These are a good place to start out on a freshly rolled character.
Aughild's Authority Shoulder, Chest, Bracer, HelmShoulders and Bracers widely Considered to be Best In Slot with RRoG equipped
2p Set: Reduces damage from ranged attacks by 7.0%, Reduces damage from melee attacks by 7.0%
3p Set: Reduces damage from elites by 15.0%, Increases damage against elites by 15%

3p Set: 50% Better Chance of Finding Magical Items, Increases Bonus Experience by 50%
Captain Crimson's Trimmings Belt, Pants, Boots2p Set: Regenerates 2000 Life per Second, Reduces cooldown of all skills by 10.0%
3p Set: +50 Resistance to All Elements, Reduces all resource costs by 10%.
The Follower
Obviously we all do some solo farming. Followers are a huge opportunity for us to improve our clear times.
No matter how GG their items are, their damage is going to pale in comparison to your own. Gearing a follower is about using items which will benefit your main character, not do massive DPS. Once geared, your follower can no longer die. This means all those slots on gear that you wasted on sustain and LOH are now freed up.
Go after HIGH ATTACK SPEED, and/or WEAPONS and ITEMS that PROC an effect that helps your main.
Legendary Follower Item
This goes in their special slot [...]. It allows them to never die.
Overwhelming Desire Amulet
Chance to CHARM enemies on hit. Charmed enemies take 35% more damage. With high attack speed jewelry and an azurewrath this is very nice.
Unity Ring
If you didn't already know, ask somebody. Unity on follower and yourself means they absorb 50% of your damage.
Imagine it combined with 30% reduction on mojo and 10% on zombie dog rune
Nagelring
Adds Magic Find to your main character.
Other rings or Amulets:
Anything with max attack speed or anything with a proc affect or bonus that benefits main character.
Azurewrath with Attack speed and High chance to Freeze
With high attack speed, IAS rings and IAS on the amulet, you can get to 1.8+ attacks per second! Can roll up to 25% chance to freeze
Maximus
Get a demon on a fire chain leash. Does a good job as a meat shield, don't count on big dps.
Slow attack speed so wearing a proc on hit item doesn't work as well.
Buriza Do Kyanon
Not nearly as GG as it was on follower in D3Vanilla. It still has ability to roll up to 10% freeze
Current Build
I have been testing a lot of different skill variations. I have found that theorycrafted ideas predicated on certain skills being used in certain ways in a timely manner just don't fly on a bot. Realistically you need to do some babysitting and make adjustments as necessary. Just because you can do the skill routine doesn't mean the bot won't get out of sync with the cooldowns or spam a mana skill until it's OOMing.
Remember that if you change out to a mana intensive spell like Zombie Bears, you may never cast Piranhas [Bears costs 150, Piranhas 250. Bot spends mana as soon as it comes in during a fight].
Skill build:
Plague of Toads: Addling Toads
Spirit Walk: Jaunt
Piranhas: Piranhado
Gargantuan: Wrathful Protector

General Stats:
Passives only, no gruesome feast, buffs or debuffs, vs trash mobs [not elites].
1.4mil DPS sheet dps
9 million toughness
Toads crit for 2.5-2.8 million
Fetishes crit for 11-13 million
Tall Man's Finger Zombie Dog crits for 60-65mil
Garg crits for 82-85mil
When you stack all of the elite dps, Piranhas, BBV on top of that, it get's pretty crazy... Garg crits for 220million
T5 most elites melt in seconds.
T5 Bounty full clears no deaths.
T6 is more than do-able with the bot running, AFK
Cooldown Build
This is more of a fun concept to see how little effort is needed to get to a high level of cooldown reduction. The goal is to change as little from our basic build as possible and see if it's worth the reduction. The downside here is dropping DPS from Midnight Feast and 25% Elite DPS from set bonuses. You could drop Grave Injustice as we are stacking so much CDR already and keep Midnight Feast.
Changes from basic build are in orange.
Skill build:

Keeping in mind that if you're running Grave Injustice, you will see a 1 second reduction in cooldown for every enemy that dies within 20 yards (which is increased by your pickup radius).
Every time I cast Piranhado on trash, by the time it drops it's basically off cooldown already.
Changelog:
Added Strongarm Bracers due to Piranhado proc of the additional damage on bracers.
Updated Current Gear/Build
Added BiS Section
Added Cooldown Build info
