Hey,

I am using a *** to mask another of my computers IP addresses just to be safe (already had a ***). Battle.net still says that this player is a "player near you" and I'm not sure how that is working since the IP addresses are from totally different spots.

Hi, Synoda,

It depends on how your arrangement is set up. The address your ISP assigns to your modem/firewall/router may be what is actually escaping to Blizzard. Other than that, IP addresses can be (rather accurately) identified most of the time using a GeoIP database.

There are basically a lot of ways it could happen, and you would have to read and map the knowledge into the particular network configuration and topology at your site.

cheers,
