To prospect or not? When do you prospect!

Alright, so I just only recently started botting for mining + herbs, and now comes the hard part....... selling it!

I've decided just to sell the herbs, as none really raids anymore, so its no use making into flasks.


But for the ores!
How do you decide whetever to prospect them and sell gems, or just to sell the ores?
Im really - really - poor at math, so if anyone won't mind, ill link you the prices for my server, and if you could tell me what YOU would do in my place.

A stack of 20 Elementium Ore goes for: ~40g.
A stack of 20 Pyrite Ore goes for: ~50g.

An inferno ruby sells for ~100g.
An ocean sapphire sells for 5g.
An amberjewel sells for 10g.
An demonseye sells for 5g.
A dreamful emerald sells for 3g.
And an ember topaz sells for 5g.

So... Is it worth prospecting my ores and make cut/uncut gems out of them, or is it better money just selling the ores?

I've never done prospecting, so I don't know how it works.

I generally use wowhead and excel for this kind of thing.

So from wowhead each of the jems have about 4% prospect rate from Elementium Ore and 7% from Pyrite ore.

What that means is that (rough math) for every stack of 20 its about 80% chance to get ONE of any of the gems from Elementium Ore and about 140% chance to get one from Pyrite ore... Mind you there will be other items that get prospected that might be worth something.... but based on the math you gave me... I would take the ore price, that way I am guaranteed that i get 40-50 gold.

However if running higher numbers say 10 stacks you get about 8 Gems with Elementium and 14 with Pyrite... but you are running ods if in that 10 stacks you get 14 Inferno you did good but if all of them are dreamful emeralds then ... you lost alot.

I will finish the excel sheet and you can take from that what you want.
